June 12, 89,

Claudia Cuthrell, beloved daughter of Louis Daniel Cuthrell and Claudia Applewhite Cuthrell, died on Monday, June 12, 2017 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.  A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Willow Dale Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Glenn Phillips of First Baptist Church officiating.

Claudia was born in Goldsboro on June 4, 1928 and was the fifth daughter born to the Cuthrells.  Because of her physical and mental disabilities, she never attended school.  Claudia remained at home with her parents as her older sisters attended school, married and moved out of the house.  She kept busy doing many chores around the house.  Claudia dusted, put everything in its place, swept the front walk and gradually started sweeping the entire sidewalk.  She looked forward to greeting the mailman and paper boy.  Claudia attended the First Baptist Church regularly with her family.

After the death of her father in 1973 and then her mother in 1980, Claudia was placed in a private home with four other clients.  In 1981 Claudia moved to Woodard Care on Hwy. 70.  The management and staff at Woodards provided a loving and secure home for Claudia until she moved to the Brian Center in April of 2015.  At Woodards, Claudia enjoyed bingo games, ceramic painting and the many church groups and individuals that visited.  Her greatest pleasure was visiting “her church” where she always felt welcomed.

Claudia is survived by her nieces and nephews:  Eleanor Hester White of Raleigh, Lee Hester and wife Pat of Apex, Robert Hester and wife Barbara of Westover, WV, Donna Hester of Louisburg, Louis Weil and wife Sissy of Morehead City, David Weil and wife Emily of Goldsboro, Leslie Weil Paley of Goldsboro, and a special great-nephew, Daniel Paley.
