Paul Clyde Sullivan, 87, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield surrounded by his family.
Paul was born in Johnston County on October 6, 1929, the youngest child of 10 children, to the late Pharoah and Betty Rains Sullivan. He had retired from E.I. Dupont after 24 ½ years of service. Paul proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He lived a life of dedication to his family and friends, and to his community. Paul was a member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church where he served on the administrative board, board of trustees, and the evangelism board.
A service to celebrate Paul’s life will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Pine Forest United Methodist Church with Rev. Madison Hankal officiating. Interment will follow in church cemetery with Navy military honors. The family will greet friends Saturday following the service at the church and other times at his home.
Paul is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Mignon Coley Sullivan; son, Paul Clyde Sullivan II of Goldsboro; daughters, Robbin Oliver and husband Billy and Gina Harr and husband Jim, all of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Jenna Coffey and husband Will, Corey Harr and fiancée, Kendall, Austin Harr, and Brandon Oliver and wife Nikki; great-grandchildren, Noah and Harper Coffey; and sister, Helen Hines of Chester, VA.

Judith Dianne “Judie” Harrison, 72, of Goldsboro, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017. Judie was born June 29, 1944 in Lenoir County to the late Theodore Harrison and Swain Croom Harrison. In addition to her parents, Judie was preceded in death by two sisters, Lela Jordan and Betsy Russell. Judie was one who never met a stranger and she always stepped up to help others in need. Her bright smile lit up every room she entered. With a positive attitude and bright smile, Judie was a source of joy and strength to many during her 17 year battle with cancer. Judie worshiped her Lord at Casey’s Chapel Church. An avid sports fan, Judie was a huge fan of the UNC Tarheels and the Chicago Cubs. She was delighted beyond measure to see both bring home championships during the last year. Judie lived for trips to her beloved North Carolina Coast. Everything was always better when at the beach.
A service to celebrate and honor Judie’s life will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 7 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home. A committal service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from Fairview Cemetery.
Judie is survived by her longtime best friend and caregiver, Carol Lancaster; brother, Travis Harrison and wife, Beverly; her beloved canine companion, Prancer; along with 11 nieces/nephews, 21 great nieces/nephews and 20 great-great nieces/nephews.

Cleveland Lee “Cleve” Wright, 84, of La Grange, peacefully passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017. Cleve was born November 8, 1932 in Dobson, NC to the late Perry Wright and Nancy Cockerhan Wright. Cleve proudly served his country. He served 3 years in the United States Marine Corps and later served 23 years with the United States Air Force retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. Cleve was passionate about bluegrass music. He loved playing the banjo and guitar. Cleve could often be found performing old hymns for the senior adult meetings at church or playing bluegrass on the weekends. He was instrumental in teaching numerous individuals how to properly play the guitar and banjo. An accomplished woodworker, Cleve loved working with his hands. He built decorative shelves, swings, tables and chests. His intricate, detailed work was second to none. Cleve freely spoke his mind and liked things his way. Once you got through his tough exterior, you discovered a tender-hearted man with a special love for children and helping others. Cleve attended La Grange Church of God.
A service to celebrate and honor Cleve’s life will be held Friday, June 2, 2017 at 10 a.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Pastor Arnold Ball officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Cleve is survived by his beloved and wonderful wife of 29 years, Ann Howard Wright; grandson, Stephen Blackburn and his fiancee, Charlie Taylor; his beloved grand dog, Lady; step-daughter, Wanda Sue Carter Smith and husband, Steve; two brothers, Hubert Wright and wife, Janette, and Howard “Edward” Wright and wife, Jan; two special daughters, Michelle Pelletier and Pam “Skeeter” Drisko; special granddaughter, Skylar Drisko; special family friends, Don and Peg Thiltgen; daughter, Penny Sue Wright Baker and husband, Brian; and a great-niece Cleve referred to as “Papa’s Girl”, Raelyn Phelps. James Edward Summerlin, 75, passed away Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. James was born in Wayne county to the late William Lester and Pearle Johnson Summerlin, and was the husband of Nancy Summerlin. He was retired from Probation and Parole with the State of North Carolina, and was a past employee of Cherry Hospital. James was a veteran of the North Carolina Army National Guard. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday from the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral home at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. David Jackson and Rev. Jonathan Smith officiating. Committal services will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.

Katherine Mary Oshea-Sikorski, 62, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Kathi was born in Queens, New York on May 21, 1955 to the late Joseph and Margaret Mulgannon Varacchi. She had worked as an account manager with General Electric.
A service for the family will be held at a later date.
Kathi is survived by her husband, David Sikorski; son, Daniel Oshea and wife Christina; two grandchildren, Christopher Oshea and Makayla Oshea; and her siblings, Joseph, Teresa, Lorraine, and Toni.

George Emerson Hodgin, Sr., 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.
George was born in Wayne County on March 21, 1930 to the late Gurnie Edwin Hodgin and Virginia Lewis Hodgin. He proudly served his country in the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army. George owned and operated Parker Poultry Company and later owned and operated Hodgin Enterprises, Aries Formal Wear, and Sallies Bridal and Formal Shop in Goldsboro. He was a former member of the Goldsboro Jaycees and the Goldsboro Chamber of Commerce. George was the kind of man who was loyal to his family and who took great pride in caring and providing for them. He loved Goldsboro Friends Meeting and was a dedicated and faithful member his entire life. George had a large extended circle of family and friends and they were all very special to him. He will be missed, but greatly remembered.
A service to celebrate George’s life will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Pastor George Strickland officiating. Interment will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.
George is survived by the love of his life of 60 years, Sallie Powell Hodgin; daughter, Deborah Hodgin Welch and husband Wade Dean Welch of Goldsboro; son, George Emerson Hodgin Jr. and wife Jeanne Anders Hodgin of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Danielle Sellers, Deanna Sellers, George Hodgin III and wife Mindy, and Sarah Hodgin; and great-grandchildren, Hazel and L.J. He is also survived by a nephew, Robert Hodgin and wife Joan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Genevieve H. Gay and brother, Thomas Edwin Hodgin.

Ruby Mae McCandless Cooke, 93, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Willow Creek Nursing Home.
Ruby was born in Wayne County on November 25, 1923 to the late James and Bettie Scott McCandless. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Gary Bailey officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.
Mrs. Gloria Blackmore Kelly, age 82, a resident of the Willow Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Goldsboro, North Carolina.

Christopher Thomas Wells, age 41, of 185 Westbrook Ave., died Tuesday at home. Born in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of Johnny Wells of Virginia and Deborah Jackson of Washington, N.C. and the step-son of C.D. Harding of Chocowinity, N.C.

Mable Gwyn Toler Gray, 75, passed peacefully on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.
Mable was born in Johnston County on October 22, 1941 to the late Harris C. Toler, Sr. and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Jane Peedin Toler. For many years she worked as a caregiver in a children’s daycare and later as a sitter with the elderly. Mable had a great love for the outdoors and she enjoyed yard work and gardening, as reflected by her beautiful yard. Mable leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and support for the people she cared about. Her enthusiasm and charm will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. in the Princeton Cemetery with her niece, Ivy Parker, presiding.

Dolly Mae Minshew Ellis,74, of Snow Hill, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Dolly was born on September 20, 1942 in Wayne County to the late Hubert and Lucille Sullivan Minshew. She was married for 55 years to the late Billy Carr Ellis. Dolly had worked with Barry Manufacturing in Goldsboro and was a graduate of cosmetology school. She had also received certification as a nursing assistant. Dolly was a member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
Dolly will be remembered for her unconditional love as a wife, mother, granny, sister and a friend to all. So too will she be remembered for her compassionate spirit and soul, and her gift of finding joy in doing random acts of kindness for others. Family was paramount to Dolly, and she loved nothing more than her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was the embodiment of love as we have been taught by our Savior, Jesus Christ. Dolly will be sorely missed here on earth, but we take solace in the fact that she has now rejoined the love of her life, her Billy!

June B. Hood, age 88, died Thursday at Mt. Olive Center. Born in Charlottesville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Stuart and Edith Harlow Bibb. She was the wife of the late Dillon Morris Hood after 43 years of marriage. She spent most of her adulthood in NC where she retired civilian employment at Seymour Johnson AFB as a keypunch operator and eventually settled in Dudley, NC where she was a member of Love Memorial Baptist Church.
A Graveside service will be held Monday at 3:00 pm in Wayne Memorial Park with Pastor Richard Toler officiating. The family will visit with family and friends following the service at the gravesite.
June leaves behind her son, Stephen Harlow of Dudley; her daughter, Tammy Hood; two grandchildren, Abby Woodard and Greg Stevens. She also leaves two brothers, Freddie Bibb and Donald Bibb of Charlottesville and many nieces & nephews as well as dear friend, Winnie Kessler and special cousin, Mary Ballard.

Edith Speight Hancock, 85, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Edith was born in Tarboro, North Carolina on December 8, 1931 to the late Joseph Lucian Speight and Hazel Harrell Speight. Her most significant role in life and what she did best was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had attended United In Christ Church.
A service celebrating Edith’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2017 in the mausoleum chapel of Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Ira Williford and Rev. Dock Hobbs officiating. The family will greet friends Sunday following the service at the cemetery.
Edith is survived by her husband, Roy Hancock; daughter, Becki Hobbs and husband Scott of Dudley; son, Jeff Hancock and wife Jackie of Pikeville; grandchildren, Brandy Schooler and husband Keith, Amber Hancock, Eric Crumpler, and Chelsea Young; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Schooler, Ari Schooler and Jack Schooler; and her niece, Kim Taylor Walker and husband Alan of Wendell.
