Louis Harrell “L.H.” Hinson

Louis Harrell “L.H.” Hinson, 69, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

 

L.H. was born in Wayne County on November 10, 1947 to the late James Harrell Hinson and Virginia Dare Lancaster Hinson.  He had retired as an inspector with Firestone and was a member of Faro Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.  L.H. was a hard-working man, which was the theme of his life.  He was the kind of man who was loyal to his family, who took great pride in caring and providing for them.

 

A service to celebrate L.H.’s life will be Friday, May 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in chapel at Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Don Sauls officiating.  Interment will follow in Eureka Cemetery.

 

L.H. is survived by his wife, Ruby Jean Loftin Hinson; daughter, Crystal H. Bartlett (David) of Patetown; son, Darren Hinson (Christa) of Princeton; step-mother, Kathleen Hinson of Faro; and seven grandchildren.  He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters.

 

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times at the home.


Donald Ryan Gaston

Donald Ryan Gaston, 30, of La Grange, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017. Donald took great pride in his role as husband and father to Cassie and Shealyn. His happiest moments were seeing them smile. Donald was a man of deep faith in God. His faith in God gave him the strength required to face the challenges of life. Donald loved seeing others smile. His sense of humor, jokes and bright smile endeared him to everyone he came in contact with. Donald lived to serve others and his community. He passionately answered the call to serve and help others. He began his firefighting career with the La Grange Volunteer Fire Department and for the last three years has served with the Jason Volunteer Fire Department. From 2009-2016 Donald served as an assistant advisor to KDPS Explorer Post 1033. Known as “Uncle Duck”, he instantly connected with the children under his tutelage. Donald was a passionate music lover. He especially enjoyed the music of Earth, Wind & Fire, The Jackson 5, The Temptations, 80’s Hip-Hop and the sweet, soothing sounds of music from the Motown era. His life leaves a lasting impression in the lives of all who knew him.

A service to remember and celebrate Donald’s life will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park, Pink Hill.

A loving husband and amazing father, Donald is survived by his wife of six years, Cassie Barss Gaston; his precious daughter, Shealyn Pearl Gaston. Donald often referred to Shealyn as “Corn”, “Pooh Bear” or “Shea Bug”. In addition to his wife and daughter, Donald is survived by his father, Rufus Gaston, Jr.; mother, Evelyn Gaston-Wilfong; four siblings, Markus Branthoover, Brandon Spikes-Moss, R.J. Wilfong and Tia Hannah; his maternal grandmother, Shirley Marie Spikes; his father and mother-in-law, Will and Sandy Barss; and his sister-in-law, Renee Turner.

Donald’s family will receive friends Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Will Barss, 2856 Abby Court, Kinston. A education fund for Donald’s daughter, Shealyn. Details will be posted later.

Edward Earl Head

Edward Earl Head, 88, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Brian Center.

Edward was born in Greene County on July 23, 1928 to the late Harvey Head and Elizabeth Head Wolford.  He was married to the late Emma Grant Head.  Edward retired from Kemp Furniture Company.  While his health permitted, Edward attended Westwood United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.

Edward is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Pat Wolford of Dudley; and his special cousins, Annette Dail and Kathy Coor.

Lina Stanaland Angstadt

Lina Stanaland Angstadt, 87, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

Lina was born in Brunswick County on February 20, 1930 to the late William Ernest Stanaland and Mary Parker Stanaland.  She had worked for many years as a legal secretary for Moses and Diehl Law Office and was a member of Saulston United Methodist Church.  Lina brought joy, laughter and love to her family and the many others she met.  We were lucky to have her in our lives and the world will be a sadder place without her.

A service to celebrate Lina’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in the sanctuary of Saulston United Methodist Church with Rev. Bryan Huffman and Rev. Carolyn Simms officiating.  The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.  Interment will be in the Eastern Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery.

Lina is survived by her husband of 48 years, Eugene Edward Angstadt; sons, Ronald Earl Prince and wife Marcia of Goldsboro, Michele Ernest Prince and wife Patricia of Wrightsville Beach, and Samuel Owens Prince and wife Linda of Virginia Beach, VA; brothers, Vestal Parker Stanaland of Longwood and Jerry Deon Stanaland of North Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandchildren, Ronald Jeffrey Prince (Jenny), Megan Prince Worrell, Michelle Prince, and Bevin Prince Friend (William); and three great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given in Lina’s memory to Saulston United Methodist Church, 4620 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27530.

Peggy Faucette Huffman

Peggy Faucette Huffman, 67, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

Peggy was born in Wayne County on January 3, 1950 to the late John Graham Faucette and Bessie Hines Faucette.  She was married to Eddie Huffman who preceded her in death on July 28, 2005.  Peggy enjoyed life and spending time with her family and friends.  She was a valued child support administrator of Wayne County Social Services for over 30 years.  Peggy loved Oakland Community Church and was a dedicated and faithful servant her entire life.

Peggy will be remembered for her unconditional love as a wife and mother, and a friend to all.  So too will she be remembered for her compassionate spirit and soul, and her gift of finding joy in doing random acts of kindness for others.  Family was paramount to Peggy, and she loved nothing more than her husband, her children, and grandchildren.  She was the embodiment of love as we have been taught by our Savior, Christ Jesus.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service celebrating Peggy’s life at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Phil Bowden officiating.  Interment will be Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Peggy is survived by her daughters, Janet Michelle Huffman of Goldsboro and Stefanie Huffman Adams of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Jordan, Austin, Brianna, Britney, and Carson; sisters, Judy F. Smith of Goldsboro, and Betsy Lawhorn and husband Ricky of Goldsboro; brother, Kenneth Graham Faucette and wife Eula of Goldsboro; and sister-in-law, Vickie Huffman.

Peggy’s family would like to acknowledge the staff of 3HC, as well as the friends, church members, caregivers, nurses, and physicians who had a profound impact on the quality of her life in recent months.

Rosa Taylor Minchew died Saturday at Woodard’s Care. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Margaret Taylor, wife of the late James Ollie Minchew for 54 years and mother of the late Gary Minchew. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Billy Taylor and Louis Taylor and sisters, Elizabeth Aldridge, Pauline Farrell, Helen Pope and Zilphia Mercer. Rosa was a long-time member of Love Memorial Baptist Church and was a nurse at Wayne Memorial Hospital for 32 years.

A service to celebrate Rosa’s life will be held Wednesday at 2:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Toler and Rev. Bobby Heath officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. Family members will greet friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the home of her grandson, Jay Minchew, 314 Clay Brook Drive, Goldsboro.

Rosa is survived by her son and daughter in law, Marshall and Gail Minchew; a sister, Marjorie Ridoutt; grandchildren, Jeff Minchew, Jay and Cindy Minchew, Bill Minchew, Christopher Minchew and Jamie and Chris Hobbs; step grandchildren, Porter Jones and Marshall Jones; great grandchildren, Ashley Minchew, Mackenzie Minchew, Mason Minchew and Blake Price; a niece, Elizabeth Jo Heath and husband, Bobby.

Archibald Hanes Pate, Jr., 79, passed away at his home on Monday, May 15, 2017.

Buddy was born in Wayne County on November 17, 1937 to the late Archibald Hanes Pate, Sr. and Corrine Willis Pate.  He proudly served in the North Carolina National Guard.  Buddy also worked for the United States Postal Service.  He was a millwright machinist by profession and also had farming interests in Wayne County.  Buddy attended Goldsboro High School and Wayne Community College where he majored in mechanical technology.

Buddy was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where he had served on the administrative board, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the hand bell choir.  He was a member of Wayne Masonic Lodge #112 A.F. & A.M., the Wayne County Historical Association, and a charter member of the Goldsboro Rifles Camp 760.  Buddy was also a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, The Travelers Protective Association, and a former member of the Wayne County Fire Service.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in the church parlor of St. Paul United Methodist Church followed by a service celebrating Buddy’s life at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary with Rev. Phyllis Vail officiating.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Buddy is survived by his daughter, Diane P. Hinnant of Clayton, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Elton D. Pate; sister, Corrine Pate; and brother, Roy Pate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Buddy’s memory to the Music Ministry at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 204 E. Chestnut Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.

Nora Ann Smith Edmundson

Nora Ann Smith Edmundson, 85, went to be with her Lord on Monday, May 15, 2017 surrounded by her family.

Nora Ann was born in Wayne County on October 16, 1931 to the late John G. Smith and Nora Gurley Smith.  Her life was filled humility, kindness and a love for others that she displayed every time she smiled.  She dedicated her life to serving her family unselfishly and to serving her Lord.  Nora Ann was a member of Woods Grove Church for nearly seven decades where she served in the Ladies Auxiliary, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school for over 40 years.  She was always on call to give an encouraging word or helping hand, as she and her husband assisted with the television ministry – Message of New Beginnings.  She enjoyed life especially her children, and grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Nora Ann’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in the sanctuary of Wood’s Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Teague officiating.  The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the church and other times at her home.  Interment will be on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.

Nora Ann is survived by her husband of 67 years, Carlton R. Edmundson; son, Dean Edmundson and wife Carolyn; daughter, Jan Butts and husband Tim; grandchildren, Justin Butts and wife Jessica, Brett Butts, Taylor Edmundson; and sisters, Esther Casey and Vernell Quinn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James E. “Shine” Smith, Joe William Smith, Robert Smith, Rex Smith and John G. Smith, Jr.; and sisters, Laulas Newsome, Sarah Emma Davis, Mabel Coker, and Ava Faircloth.

She will be laid to rest at Wayne Memorial Park, 2925 US Hwy 117 South, Dudley, NC. There will be a viewing held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 1:00pm until 6:00pm with the family arriving to receive friends from 5:00pm until 6:00pm in the J.B. Rhodes Jr. Memorial Chapel at J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home & Cremations of Goldsboro.

She was born on February 22, 1952 in Wilson County, NC to Raymond Roundtree Sr. and Rosa Lee Batts Roundtree. She is survived by her husband, Willie H. Collie Sr. and her children.

Margaret Louise Paxton Stutts Rudisill, 86, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at her home.

 

Margaret was born in Roanoke, Virginia on November 12, 1930 to the late Roy Gilbert Paxton and Esther Weeks Paxton.  She was married to the late Stanley E. Stutts and Schuyler Rudisill.  Margaret had worked in the furniture industry and later had worked with the City of Goldsboro Sanitary Division.  She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school.  Margaret was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.

 

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7:00 PM in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Michael Brooks officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service.  Interment will be Friday at 10:00 AM in Wayne Memorial Park.

 

Margaret is survived by her son, Stanley E. Stutts II and wife Patricia of Pittsboro; daughter, Deena Stutts of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Rebecca Louise Stutts, Heather Ann Stutts, Harley Dean Stutts, Laura Ann Crowder Bredin, Wallis M. Alexander, Raena Lynn Crowder, Steven-Michael Young Crowder, Daniel-Michael Joseph Barrett, India Suzanne Barrett, Rosemary Todd Thompson and Remo Todd; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to her husband and parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her son, George Gilbert Stutts and her daughter, Vickie Lynn Stutts; three sisters and four brothers.

Shelby Jean Corbett Long, 80, of Goldsboro, received her Heavenly reward on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 while surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born December 10, 1936 in Lenoir County to the late Roby Corbett and Louise Hines Corbett. She was wife of the late Benjamin Franklin Long. Jean worshiped her Lord at Brogden Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Her faith in Jesus and concern for others was exhibited in all she did. Jean was a people person. She never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcome in her presence. Her concern for others often caused her to place the needs of others ahead of her own needs. She believed in the power of prayer and was a encourager to both family and friends. Gospel music always lifted her spirits and the music of Conway Twitty or Loretta Lynn always brought a smile. A perfect Saturday always included checking out the local yard sales and looking for a great bargain. Jean was a longtime employee of La Grange Day Care . Her memory shines brightly in our hearts.

A service to celebrate Jean’s life will be held Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 7 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home. A committal service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from Fairview Cemetery.

Jean is survived by three daughters, Lydia Outlaw and husband, Gordon, Velma Frizzelle and Thelma Johnson; two sisters, Lolas Blizzard and Bundy Pyatt; six grandchildren, Shelby King and husband, Darel, Lydia Bauer and husband, Tommy, Becky Dougan and husband, Patrick, Tonya Barnett, Benjamin Sexton and wife, Jamie, and Betty Sue Blizzard; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and two special family friends, Faye Sutton and Ervin Johnson. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin Roby Long; brother, Thurston Corbett; and a special family friend, Mary Wagner.

Family and friends will be received Thursday following the service. Jean’s family would like to express a special thank you to Community Home Care & Hospice for the great care giving to Jean. David T. Grigg Jr., 73, passed away at home unexpectedly Tuesday. He was born in Gastonia, NC to Ruth R. Westbrook and the late David T. Grigg Sr., and was married to Kathi Grigg. Mr. Grigg was a member of the United States Army, and was a self-employed plumber.

In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Grigg is survived by his daughter, Angelia G. Harold Clayton Maggard Sr., 67, of Mt. Olive passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at home.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.  A graveside service will be held Friday, May 26, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley.

 

Clayton was born in Kentucky on February 18, 1950 to the late Eugene and Dixie Maggard.

 

He is survived by a daughter, Dixie Gurley and husband, Richard of Mt. Olive; brother, Dennis; three sisters, Sue, Patricia and Kay; three grandchildren, Bree, Alex and Avery and one great-grandchild, Janie Marie.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Janie Reeves Maggard; son, Harold Clayton Maggard Jr. and his sister, Beatrice.

Deacon Albert Worrells Sr., the son of the late Wesley and Laura Worrells Sr., was born on December 30, 1928 in Wayne County, NC. Deacon Worrells answered the Master’s call from labor to reward on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center fulfilling the good, acceptable, and pleasing Will of God for his life here with us.

 

An inspirational wake will be held Sunday, May 28, 2017 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Darden Chapel OFWB Church, E. Hooks River Road in Goldsboro.  Homegoing services will be held Monday, May 29, 2017 at noon at Greenleaf Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Goldsboro.  Burial will follow for the family at Resthaven Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Dudley.

 

Early in life, he began his career working at Southern Cotton Oil Company and Export Tobacco Company; then later retired from Wayne Memorial Hospital as an Environmental Aid after working for 25 years.

 

For over 70 years, Deacon Albert Worrells Sr. was a faithful and dedicated member of Darden Chapel O.F.W.B. Church. He was a praying man of God that believed in the power of prayer. His continual and influential testimony to the church has always been, “Singing is alright; praying is alright; but saints, you got to live the life!” He emphasized that the only way to see Christ in peace was to be saved. Deacon Worrells was the devotion leader who often said, “You ought to pop up like popcorn to testify of the goodness of the Lord!” He was well known for singing many songs including: Shine on Me; Down at the Cross; Let Jesus Lead You; When I See the Blood (I Will Pass Over You); and There’s Not a Friend Like the Lowly Jesus. If you didn’t have a song, Deacon Worrells would gladly sing his without hesitation to usher in the Holy Spirit and set the atmosphere for any service come what may. Prior to becoming a deacon, he served as a Senior Usher; over the years, he was ever-faithful at conducting prayer meeting. He was a great supporter of the all the ministries at Darden Chapel; but most of all, he loved his Pastor, Elder Carlton Barnes and Darden Chapel Church family. Deacon Worrells was also a dedicated and devoted member of the Southern District Unions, Conventions, and the O.F.W.B. Annual Conference.

 

Deacon Worrells was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Laura Worrells, Sr.; his brothers James, Edmond and Wesley Worrells, Jr.; his sisters Marylena Best and Lila Pearl Barnes; and a son, Charles Worrells.

 

He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his wife of 66 years, Doris Brinson Worrells of the home; two daughters Doris Coley and Elaine Worrells of Goldsboro and his eldest granddaughter of whom he raised Minister Felicia Carmon (Calvin) of Snellville, Georgia; four sons Minister Albert Worrells, Jr. (Camelia) and Dr. Anthony Worrells, Sr. (Darlene) of Goldsboro, Elder Joseph Worrells (Pamela) of Apple Valley, Minnesota, and Michael Worrells (Yvette) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. His 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. One sister, Clara Lee Barnes of Capital Heights, Maryland, his beloved nephew, Roland Worrells (Cynthia) of Goldsboro, five brothers-in-law, eight sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.

Graveside services for Jack Williamson will be held Saturday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at Grant’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery near Seven Springs.  The family will receive friends after the service for a brief time at the cemetery.

Jack, 64, died Wednesday morning, May 24, in a New Bern retirement center.  He was a native of the Williams Crossroads area near Mount Olive and had served in the United States Navy.

Preceded in death by his parents, Willie Carl Williamson and Beatrice Brogden Williamson; a brother, Bill Williamson; and a sister, Margie W. Taylor, Jack is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Grace W. and Charlie Bass of Princeton; a niece, Crystal Bass and fiancee, Andy Overton, both of Princeton; two great-nephews, David Jordan Thompson and Hunter Wayne Thompson, both of Princeton;  an aunt, Evelyn W. Wells of Mount Olive; and many cousins.
