Wanda Pearsall Babb, 67, resident of Mount Olive, passed away Monday, May 1, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Graveside funeral services will be Thursday, May 4, at 2 p.m. at Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Olive.  Pastor Jeffrey Dail will officiate.  The family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., and at other times at the residence.

Wanda was the widow of Charles C. Babb and daughter of the late Braxton L. and Katie Mozingo Pearsall.

She is survived by her fiance, Willie Darden, of Mount Olive; three sons, Jay Allen and wife, Allison, of Mount Olive, Brian Babb and wife, Erica, of Mount Olive, and Stephen Babb and wife, Dixie, of Grantham; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn Grace Love Kornegay, Layla Ruth Halo Allen, Alexandria Nicole Babb, Stephen Charles Babb, and Sarafina Erin Everett; a sister, Kay P. Jones of Mount Olive; two brothers, Leonard Pearsall and wife, Susan, of Mount Olive, Ben Pearsall and wife, Denise, of Greenville, SC; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mrs. Lee Sutton Gore, 75, passed away Tuesday night, May 2, 2017.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 5, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Greg Nethercutt, followed by visitation.  Burial will be Saturday, May 6, at 11 a.m. at Devotional Gardens at Warsaw.

She was the daughter of the late Roscoe Daniel Sutton and Minnie Catherine Wilkins Sutton and the widow of Harry Wade Gore and Richard Fulton Jones.

Much of her life she lived in the Calypso and Faison areas, until her second marriage necessitated a move to Smithfield where the couple operated a Radio Shack dealership. She also worked in the Walmart Bakery in Smithfield.

Survivors include three daughters, Sherry Lee and husband, Curtis, of Calypso, Terry Waters and husband, Ricky, of Calypso, and Kathy Phillips of Faison; two sisters, Margie Howard of Warsaw and Gaynelle Brodgen of Knightdale; two brothers, Nick Sutton of Pikeville and David Sutton of Virginia; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial gifts may be made to a local animal shelter or rescue center, or a fund benefiting Native Americans.

Luther H. Anderson

Luther H.  Anderson went home to be with our Lord and his beloved wife, Sallye on May 4, 2017, after a 7 year battle with Alzheimer’s.  He died at home with loved ones by his side.

Luther was born on March 12, 1926, in Dudley, NC to the late Addie Mae and Russell R. Anderson.  He was married to the late Sallye Tilton Anderson for 68 years.  He is survived by 4 children:  Eve Anderson Sicard of Farmville, Michael H. Anderson and wife JoAnne of Fremont, Theresa Anderson Glisson and husband George of Goldsboro, and Patricia Anderson of Durham.  10 Grandchildren:  Amy Sicard Swafford and husband James, Jennifer Glisson Olson and husband Greg, Jessica Anderson Wiggins, Melanie Sicard Webb and husband Rob, Christopher “Andy” Sicard, Jason Glisson and wife Kristin Davis, Melissa Anderson, Matthew Anderson, Barrett Panton, Shannon Creech Welsh and husband Marc; and 14 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by a sister, Lynda Anderson Smith of SC and a sister-in-law, Frances Huffman Anderson of Garner.  He was preceded in death by his wife and parents and recently by his brother, R. E. “Gene” Anderson, a brother-in-law, Douglas Smith, and great grandchildren, Benjamin and Katherine Wiggins.

Luther was a 1943 graduate of Goldsboro High School and a Naval Veteran of WWII having served aboard the USS Atlas as an Electrician.  He was owner of AIM Electronics until his retirement.  He was a charter member of Northview Baptist Church in Goldsboro.

The Family would like to thank his caregivers for the love and care shown to our father and Sheree’, Ashly and David from Community Home Hospice for their care, compassion and support.

There will be a graveside service on May 7, 2017 at 4:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery on HWY 70W in Princeton.  Pastor Ronnie Weaver will officiate.  The Family will receive friends following the graveside service and at other times at the home of Theresa and George Glisson at 209 Little River Drive in Goldsboro.

Willis Earl Hilbourn, 88, of La Grange, quietly and peacefully passed away Friday, May 5, 2017 on his 88th birthday. Earl was born May 5, 1929 in Horry County, SC to the late James Walter Hilbourn and Bessie McKenzie Hilbourn. His wife, Addie Owens Hilbourn, preceded him in death. Earl proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He worked many years as a sheet metal fabricator in Virginia. Several years ago, Earl moved to La Grange, NC to be near his brother, Monty Hilbourn. Earl enjoyed woodworking, fishing and piddling around the house.

A service to celebrate Earl’s life will be held Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 3 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Scott Hardy officiating. Burial will be Monday at 1 p.m. from Union Baptist Church Cemetery, York, SC.

Earl is survived by two sisters, Olive Bessant of Sugarland, TX and Elaine Varnadoe of Charleston, SC; his sister-in-law, Belinda Hilbourn and her son, Curtis; along with a special nephew, Ashley Hilbourn. Willis was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Karen Ann  Williams Moore, 57, of Deck Street, Greenville died Thursday in the Vidant Care Hospital, Greenville.

She was born October 10, 1959 in Wayne County to Donald Height and Josephine Williams. Among her survivors is her aunt Rev. Naomi A. Williams

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 7 PM in the James T. Haskins Memorial Chapel of the Haskins Funeral Home.
Visitation Tuesday from 2 PM until 7 PM at the funeral home. The family will assemble at the funeral home Tuesday at 6:45 PM in preparation for the service.

Bobby Gene Price, 56, of Goldsboro, passed away Friday, May 5, 2017. Bobby was born April 24, 1961 in Wayne County to Grace Thompson Price and the late Raymond Tyndall Price. Bobby graduated from St. Andrews Presbyterian College with degrees in English and Philosophy. A talented writer, Bobby wrote and published three books of poetry. He poured himself into research and gaining knowledge. He especially enjoyed stirring the pot and debating politics. Bobby was an avid UNC Tarheel basketball fan and was thrilled to be able to see his beloved Tarheels win their sixth National Championship in April. Nothing was better to Bobby than mama’s fried chicken and turnip greens. Barbecue or a double cheeseburger from Ken’s Grill always hit the spot and he enjoyed fish on Friday nights and breakfast on the weekends at The Lantern Inn. His family has fond memories of his homemade cheesecakes. Bobby enjoyed history and had a great appreciation for things from earlier times. A sweet, loving son, father and brother, Bobby loved family get together’s with both the Thompson and Price families.

A time of visitation and fellowship to celebrate and honor Bobby’s life will be held Monday, May 8, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.

In addition to his mother, Bobby is survived by his son, Taylor O’Conner Price; siblings, Ray Price, Carol Lynn Beasley and Bobbie Raynor; niece, Elizabeth Price; his former wife, Sharon Price; along with a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ricky Dean Williams, age 57, died Friday evening at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Mount Olive he was the son of Jack Williams and the late Linda Carol Williams and was the husband of Phyllis Worrell Williams. He was previously married to the late Sandra Ludlum Williams.
A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held Monday at 3:00 pm at Wayne Memorial Park with Pastor Andy Stovall and Pastor Rick Barbato officiating. Family members will greet friends Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at his home.

Ricky was the owner of Jacks Radiator and Air Condition and was a member of The Bridge Church of Princeton. During his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, boating and going to the beach.

In addition to his wife and father, Ricky is survived by a step-daughter and son in law; Courtney and Kyle Grant of Spokane, Washington, a granddaughter; Madelyn Kay Grant and his companion Shiloh Shepherd Macie.

Graham Keith Pate, age 66, died Saturday morning at his home. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Herman Jarvis and Dollie Mozingo Pate of Goldsboro.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Keith was the owner and operator of Pate’s Auto Service of Goldsboro and had attended Freedom Baptist Church. He had served in the past as a volunteer with the New Hope Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Goldsboro Rescue Squad.

He is survived by his daughters; Stephanie Nicole Pate and Kimberly Rose Pate of Goldsboro, two brothers and sisters-in-law; Gary and Sherry Forehand Pate of Goldsboro and Greg and Hope Pate of St. Augustine, Fla., three grandchildren; Kennedy Foster, Camille Foster and Caden Williams.

Betty Jo Bobinger Sharp, age 66, of Goldsboro, went to heaven to be with special family members, Joe Ruby, Buddy Bobinger, Bea Bobinger & Elvin Bobinger. Born in Harrison County, MS, she was the daughter of the late Joe Ruby and Mary Inez McKay Bobinger. She was a retired accountant with Jackson Hewitt in Goldsboro.

She is survived by her sons, Mark (& Crystal) Sharp of Goldsboro, Clark Sharp of Texas and Rodney Sharp of Goldsboro; two brothers, Alvin Bobinger and Jimmy Bobinger; grandchildren, Joe, Christopher, Justin, Ryan, Cheyenne and Rodney Sharp.

Albert Clarence House, Sr., age 69, died Saturday at Durham VA Medical Center. He was born in Wayne County, NC to the late Julius Glynwood House and Ethel Newsome Weatherford. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
A graveside service will be Wednesday at 3:00pm at Wayne Memorial Park with Military Honors. The family will be receiving immediately following the service at the grave.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark & Wendy House of Troy, MO and Albert, II & April House of Roanoke, VA; two sisters & brothers-in-law, Lois & Kenneth Mehus of Fayetteville, NC and Frances & Paul Sanderford of Moncure, NC; and five grandchildren, Mark House, Jr., Brittani House, Kasey House, Alexander House and Jacob House.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Julius G. House and a sister, Lucille Franco.

Jennifer Howell Holmes

Jennifer Howell Holmes passed away at Wayne Memorial Hospital on May 8, 2017, surrounded by her family and friends.  Jenny was a devoted wife and loving mother, and will forever be remembered for her kind, compassionate nature, and her lifelong love of horses.  Jenny was looking forward to retirement, riding her horses, and spending time with family and friends when she was diagnosed with cancer.  Jenny was a selfless person who always put the needs of others before her own.

Since childhood, Jenny had a passion for horseback riding, most especially barrel racing.  She was a longtime member of NBHA and spent many weekends competing in barrel races.  Jenny had a very competitive spirit, but mostly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Jenny attended Mount Olive Elementary School, Mount Olive Junior High, and graduated from Southern Wayne High School in 1970.  Jenny was known for her contagious personality and was voted Homecoming Queen and Best All Around while at MOJH.  Jenny grew up in the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Olive.  For the past five years, Jenny and her husband, Hal, had been attending Rhodes Friends Meeting along with their son, Matthew and his wife, Meredith, and had recently become members.  Jenny held several jobs in the Mount Olive area, but her position at Mount Olive Middle School was the most rewarding.  She touched the lives of many co-workers and students, and was affectionately known by all as “Mrs. Jenny.”  She treated each child as her own, often taking them to and from school, buying them clothes when needed, and helping them with homework.

Jenny was the daughter of the late Donald “Red” Howell and the late Elizabeth Howell Quinn, and stepfather, Thurston Quinn.  Jenny is survived by her husband, the love of her life, David Hal Holmes.  Jenny and Hal were married for 46 years.  She is also survived by her brother, Dexter Howell; her son, David Hal Holmes Jr. and wife, Elizabeth; her son, Matthew Gray Holmes and wife, Meredith; a special niece, Kristen Grady and her family, as well as many close friends, including Ann Cashwell, her best friend.  Jenny is also survived by her horses, Spanky and Rusty, and her dog, Annie.

A private graveside service will be held May 10, fro immediate family members.  A memorial celebration of Jenny’s life will be held May 11, at 7 p.m. at Rhodes Friends Meeting, 2157 O’Berry Road, Mount Olive, to which family and friends are invited to attend.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rhodes Friends Meeting or to Mount Olive Middle School in memory of Jenny Holmes.  Tyndall Funeral Home is assisting with funeral arrangements.

Cora Lee Hill Roberts

Cora Lee Hill Roberts, 94, went to be with her Lord on Monday, May 8, 2017 at the Brian Center in Clayton.

 

Cora Lee was born in Wayne County on March 6, 1923 to the late Robert Lee Hill and Anna Estelle Eason Hill.  She was married to the love of her life, Warren Jerill Roberts on October 27, 1942.  Cora Lee was the rock of her family, her husband and children knew that she loved them with all her heart and truly was a blessing to them.  After raising her family, she began working with Americal and later retired.  Cora Lee had been a member of the original Oak Heights Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and later the Rosewood Worship Center. She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and support for the people she cared about.  Her enthusiasm and charm will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to honor Cora Lee’s life at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Andy Stovall officiating.  Interment will conclude the service in Wayne Memorial Park.

Cora Lee is survived by her daughter, Patricia Roberts Stephenson and husband Reid of Garner; sons, Meredith G. Roberts and wife Joann of Princeton, and Stephen C. Roberts and friend Hilda of Pikeville; granddaughters, Melanie Roberts Rains and husband Bryan, and Jerrie Roberts Barbato and husband Ricky; and great-grandchildren, Zoe, Law, Hailey, Gina, Meredith and Gracelynne.  She is also survived by Bessie Beamon of Goldsboro, and  her brother, Burnice Hill and wife Shirley of Goldsboro.

 

In addition to her husband and parents, Cora Lee was preceded in death by her sisters, Alice Rose, Louise Zambelli, and Mozelle Hines; and brothers, Buddy Hill, Edward Hill, and Ham Hill.

 

The Roberts family would like to acknowledge the staff of the Brian Center in Clayton, as well as the friends, caregivers, nurses, and physicians who had a profound impact on the quality of Cora Lee’s life in recent years.
