Nannie Mae Smith Barrow, 85, went to be with her Lord on Sunday morning at Wayne UNC Health Care surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Barrow was born in Greene County on August 11, 1934 to the late Willie and Thelma “Monkey” Smith. She was married for 53 years to her husband, Robert Carson Barrow, a long-time farmer in the Shine Crossroads Community. Mrs. Barrow lived to work and assisted her husband on the family farm but she was also the co-owner of Pinewood Tax Accounting Services in Goldsboro. During the harvest season you could find Nannie Mae working at Victory Tobacco Warehouse. Mrs. Barrow was a member of Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. She dedicated her life to serving her family unselfishly and to serving her Lord.
The family will gather for a graveside service at the family farm in the Barrow Family Cemetery on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 followed by a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. at Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Heath officiating. The family will receive friends at the family home and immediately following the service at the church.
Mrs. Barrow is survived by her son, Neal Barrow and wife Felicia of Raleigh; her daughter, Teresa Hamm and husband Danny of Snow Hill; two grandchildren, Rachel Barrow and Benjamin Barrow; brothers, Bob Smith and wife Peggy and Bruce Smith and wife Rose; and sister, Margie Ormond and husband A.C. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Jeanette Smith, Margaret B. Sutton, Rosetta B. Smith, Ann B. Davis and Lou Ellen Barrow; brother-in-law, Sam Perry; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Smith and sister, Ruby Pope.
