James Edward “Sparky” Westbrook, Jr., 70, passed away Monday, October 14, 2019 at his home. Born in Henderson, Kentucky on October 28, 1948, he was the son of the late James Edward Westbrook, Sr. and Anna Phillips Westbrook.
Sparky had worked with Murphy Oil Company and was a partner with his brother with the Spur Gas Stations and Goldsboro Neon Sign in Goldsboro. He was an avid UNC Tarheel fan. Sparky loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Sparky’s life in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bill Rose officiating. A private interment for the family will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Sparky is survived by his wife of twenty-one years, Wanda Person Westbrook; children, James Edward “Jay” Westbrook, III and wife, Helen of Newport, Suzanne Jones and fiancée, Ray Watkins of Pikeville, and Jeremy Westbrook and wife, Leigh of Summerfield; step-daughters, Ginny Raper and husband, David and Dani Jo Bryant and husband, Wayne; 12 grandchildren, Addison, Holly, Dillon, Austin, Braxton, Reed, Davis, Melaina, Haylah, Rocco, Sadie and Sully; brother, Donald Ray Westbrook and wife, Wanda; sister, Carolyn Weeks and husband, Earl; and several nieces and nephews he loved very much. He is also survived by his canine companion, Sammy.
