John Richard “Ricky” Bell III, 68, resident of the Mount Olive area, passed away Sunday morning, September 30, 2018 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Ricky was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation where he was highway maintenance engineer. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mount Olive, the Mount Olive Lion’s Club, had served as assistant scout master of Boy Scout Troop 200, and had been a disaster relief volunteer with the American Red Cross. He was presented the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 2006, enjoyed fishing and hunting along with his brothers-in-law, and was a member of Little Texas Hunting Club in Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Richard Bell, Jr. and Evelyn Ezzell Bell; and his parents-in-law, Norwood and Elinor Ezzell.
Ricky is survived by his wife, Cindy Ezzell Bell; a son, John R. Bell IV and wife, Kelli, of Goldsboro; a daughter, Carrie Bell Shields of Mount Olive; two grandchildren, Belle Shields and Averi Bell; a sister, Phyllis Bell of Summerville, SC; his in-laws, Koren and Kenny Edwards, Melba and Frankie Harrell, Bea and Michael Odom, and Norwood Francis Ezzell; and nieces and nephews, Tavia and Angelo Cavalara, Emily and William Brown, Meredith and Will Holt, James and Eve Harrell, Mark and Charlotte Harrell, Joanna and Mike Jones, and Jessica Feller; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 4, at 11 a.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Rose will officiate. A private burial will be in the Faison Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday, October 3, from 6 until 8 p.m., and at other times, at the residence.
