She enjoyed the chance to gather with family, friends, and neighbors. She was known well for her Christmas Eve gathering where everyone was welcome to drop by and visit. Kathy loved her family. All of us, friends and family will miss her.

February 17, 103, Goldsboro

John Woods Stackhouse, 103, passed away early Sunday morning at Wayne UNC Healthcare.

John was born in Marion, South Carolina, the son of the late George Bennett Stackhouse and Eva Bryant Stackhouse. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II after he enlisted in 1942. He was a Seabee during his service in the South Pacific.

John started Stackhouse, Inc. in 1945 which was one of the most prolific electrical companies, specializing in powerline construction, on the entire Eastern Seaboard until he sold the company in 1987. He began working with electric companies from the time he was a young boy, observing dangers of the extremely labor-intensive work. John went to work for Carolina Power and Light Company in 1932. He worked on the ground while a linemen and performed dangerous feats of installing and repairing power lines above him.

Through his work, he witnessed many men burned by the high-powered electrical lines. This inspired him to become an integral part of the effort to open the North Carolina Jaycees Burn Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The burn center opened in 1981, and in 1989 John received the Special Service Award from the American Burn Association for his dedication to this effort.

A service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. John Grayson officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service. A private interment for the family will be held in Willow Dale Cemetery.

John is survived by his wife, Marlys N. Stackhouse; children, John Woods Stackhouse, Jr. and wife Saray, Charles Kirkland Stackhouse and wife Ann, Wilson Bryant Stackhouse and wife Susan, and Katherine “Kitty” Stackhouse Sauls and husband Ben; grandchildren, Kimberly Stackhouse Smith and husband Shane, Heather Stackhouse O’Quinn and husband Ryan, Heather Sauls Honeycutt and husband Johnny, Elizabeth Stackhouse Saunders and husband John, Katherine Stackhouse Parker and husband John, John Joseph Sauls and wife Katherine, and Susan Stackhouse Lutcavage and husband Marc; seventeen great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Pamela Jeffcoat Stackhouse.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Dunlap Stackhouse and grandchildren, Benjamin Kaylor Sauls, Jr. and Claire Connor Sauls.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given to the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center, 101 Manning Drive CB #7600, Chapel Hill, NC 27599.

Online condolences may be given to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
