W. Ray Anderson, Sr

W. Ray Anderson, Sr., 91, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 16, 2017.  He was born in Goldsboro to Walter William Anderson and Anne Belle Vanderberg Anderson.  Ray was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Naval Air Corps and was honorably discharged June 1946.  He retired from the City of Goldsboro after 38 years of service, retiring as Director of General Services.  Ray was a long-time member of First Christian Church.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sylvia Shearon and husband Neal Shearon, wife, Hazel Pittman Anderson, and brother, Filmore Anderson.  He is survived by his wife, June Finch Anderson; son and daughter-in-law, Walter Ray, Jr. and Bobbie; grandchildren, Randall Shearon and wife Tina, Julie Shearon Sutton and husband Joe, Walt Anderson III and wife Caroline, Leslie Anderson Alderman and husband Judson; great-grandchildren, Alex and Emma Anderson, Nickolas Sutton and Charlotte Ray Alderman; and sister-in-law, Hazeline Anderson of Wilmington and her family.  Ray is also survived by June’s daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Chuck Shrader; grandson, Justin Connor; and great-grandchildren, Gracie and Ethan Connor.
Ray lived a life of dedication to his family and friends, and to his community.  He was a member of numerous organizations which included:  Sudan Temple, Goldsboro Elks Lodge #139 B.P.O.E., Wayne Shrine Club, Sudan Mini Rigs, International Municipal Signal Association, Institute Traffic Engineers, Goldsboro Masonic Lodge #634 A.F.& A.M., Goldsboro York Rite Bodies, Allie Masonic Degree Council 163, American Legion Post, American Public Works, Knights Templar #26, Golden K Kiwanis Club, and Goldsboro YMCA.

A service to celebrate Ray’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Fred Clarke officiating.  The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.  A committal service for the family will be held in Willow Dale Cemetery.
