George Emerson Hodgin, Sr., 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.
George was born in Wayne County on March 21, 1930 to the late Gurnie Edwin Hodgin and Virginia Lewis Hodgin. He proudly served his country in the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army. George owned and operated Parker Poultry Company and later owned and operated Hodgin Enterprises, Aries Formal Wear, and Sallies Bridal and Formal Shop in Goldsboro. He was a former member of the Goldsboro Jaycees and the Goldsboro Chamber of Commerce. George was the kind of man who was loyal to his family and who took great pride in caring and providing for them. He loved Goldsboro Friends Meeting and was a dedicated and faithful member his entire life. George had a large extended circle of family and friends and they were all very special to him. He will be missed, but greatly remembered.
A service to celebrate George’s life will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Pastor George Strickland officiating. Interment will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.
George is survived by the love of his life of 60 years, Sallie Powell Hodgin; daughter, Deborah Hodgin Welch and husband Wade Dean Welch of Goldsboro; son, George Emerson Hodgin Jr. and wife Jeanne Anders Hodgin of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Danielle Sellers, Deanna Sellers, George Hodgin III and wife Mindy, and Sarah Hodgin; and great-grandchildren, Hazel and L.J. He is also survived by a nephew, Robert Hodgin and wife Joan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Genevieve H. Gay and brother, Thomas Edwin Hodgin.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Goldsboro Friends Church, 700 Guilford Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 2, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
