Rodney Grayson Scott, Sr.

Died peacefully at home with his family surrounding him. A native of Wayne County, he was born to William Luther Scott, Sr. and Fannie Blackman Scott. He graduated from Brogden HS in Dudley in 1943. His careers included Bryan Oil Company, serving in the US Army during the Korean War, partnering in Wayne Implement Auction Corp, and farming his family farm. His hobbies included fishing, antique tractor shows and spending time with children and grandchildren. He was a lifetime member of Providence United Methodist Church, lifetime member of Goldsboro Elks Lodge # 139, Member and Past Master of Wayne Masonic Lodge # 112, lifetime member of Wayne Shrine Club, Member of Sudan Shriners, Charter member of Sudan Shriners Mini-Rigs, Member of Royal Order of Jesters, former member of Mar-Mac Fire Department.

A service to celebrate his life will be 2 PM Wednesday, Feb 1 at Providence United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Jackson officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites.

Surviving are his children, Rodney Scott, Jr., and wife Terry of Dudley, Peggy Scott Smith and husband Randy of Charlotte, Amy Scott Elks and husband Mike of Nashville, NC; grandchildren, Scottie Strong Joyce and husband Joel, Jesse Strong and wife Emily, Katie Strong, Sean Smith, Sarah Smith Strickland and husband, Matt; Kim Scott Weber and husband Tommy, Kyle Scott and wife Katie, daughter in law Susan Scott, seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, M. Verna Merritt Scott; son, R. Douglas Scott; brothers, Raymond Scott, W. F. “Buck” Scott, Shorty Scott, Vernon Scott, W.L. “Billy” Scott Jr., Tommy Scott, and sisters Gertrude Scott Spangler and Margaret Scott Waters.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Providence United Methodist Church, 202 Providence Church Rd., Goldsboro, NC, 27530, or the Sudan Shriners Children’s Hospital, 403 East Front Street, New Bern, NC 28560

The family thanks the staff and nurses at Community Home Care & Hospice, with special appreciation to Crystal Sutton, R.N. and Tammy Gurley, C.N.A.  and all friends and family with their comfort and support.
