Ben “Doodle” Mercer Jr., 72 of Goldsboro, NC passed away December 2, 2016 at home after a short illness. He was born in Grantham, NC to Ben and Mary Irene (Howell) Mercer. He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers – Johnny Wayne Mercer, Jerry Mercer, Ray Mercer, and a sister Fay Denning.
Ben was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the Army in Vietnam. In addition he was a member of the VFW. He lived and worked in North and South Carolina his entire life. He retired in 1993 from Republic Construction.
He is survived by his sons, Richard (Lisa) Mercer of Central Square, NY and Michael Mercer of Syracuse, NY, three grandchildren – Anna, Aaliyah and Richard all of Central Square, NY, a sister Diane Davis of Goldsboro, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30am at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Howell Family Cemetery.
