Charity Adams Chewning, age 88, died Wednesday in Wilmington, NC. Born in Wilson County, she was the daughter of the late William Cromwell Adams and Flora Pridgen Adams and wife of the late Bennett Harold Chewning. A member of the Mount Olive Presbyterian Church, she was an Elder. She taught school for over 40 years and was considered the queen of crossword puzzles. She enjoyed outdoor gardening and her plants and flowers.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 2:00pm at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating. The family will greet friends Friday at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her children, Ronnie Chewning and wife, Kim of Wilmington, NC and daughter, Linda Chewning and fiancée, Jason Lancaster of Wilmington, NC; her sister, Mary Odessa Rose of Springfield, VA; and two grandchildren, Taylor Chewning and wife, Beth of Raleigh, and Amber Spangler and husband, Kyle of Charlotte.
