Vera Jean Van Hoy, 70, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Vera was born in Wayne County on May 29, 1949 to the late Warren and Etta Helene Lancaster Van Hoy. She was married to the late Larry Steve Collins. Vera worked as a registered nurse at Cherry Hospital.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Vera’s life at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Rose Hicks officiating. Due to limited parking at the cemetery, the interment will be private for the family following the service at the Lancaster Family Cemetery.

Vera is survived by her daughter, Sharon Jeanette Waters; grandchildren, Colton James Waters and Gavin Reece Waters; brothers, Warren H. Van Hoy, Jr. and wife Rose of LaFayette, LA and Charles M. Van Hoy and wife Elaine of Goldsboro; special nieces, Elizabeth Van Hoy, Sarah and Tess Conrad Van Hoy; special nephews, Mark Van Hoy and Max Van Hoy; special cousins, Don and Jo Mitchell Johnson.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Douglas Nelson Van Hoy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her memory to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, PO Box 678572 Dallas, TX 75267-8572, American Heart Association, 3219 Landmark Street, Greenville, NC 27834 or to Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 3859 U.S. 70 W, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
