September 18, 81,
U.S. Army Master Sergeant, Retired, John Joseph Flynn, 81, was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 18, 2019. His wife of 59 years was by his side.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. The family will receive friends following the service.
John served his country with the U.S. Army as a radar specialist and then logistical engineer. His service included tours in Vietnam and deployments to Germany, Guam and Alaska.
He was a friend to all and loved by many. Whether coaching sports, raising his three sons with loving discipline or encouraging the “pre-dawn” Goldsboro YMCA group as “Boss Frog”, John had a wonderful sense of humor and infectious smile. But of all his relationships the greatest was with Christ, our Savior, with whom he found his final peace. He faithfully attended Bethel Church of Goldsboro where he immensely enjoyed Wednesday night Bible study.
He was preceded in death by his father, Martin; his mother, Catherine; his brothers, Ed and Butch; his sister, Honey and his grandson, Ben.
He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 59 years, Joan; his brother, Pete; his sons, John, Joseph and Jason; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, John, Emily, Jayden, Brittany, Michael, George and Tychelle; his nieces, Tina, Cindy, Patty Ann, Cathy and Gerri; his nephews, Michael and Cookie and also by his great-grandchildren, Johnny, Joey, Jackson, Mason, Avery, Cash and Caleb.
The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
