Sarah Pate Smith, 89, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at home surrounded by her family.
Sarah was born in Wayne County on June 23, 1930 to the late George Pate and Sally Gardner Pate Forehand. She was married for 68 years to Durwood Osborne Smith. Sarah enjoyed life and spending time with her family and friends. She was a valued employee of Dr. Morris where she worked as a nurse for many years. Sarah later went to work with Howell Child Care Center before returning home to work on the family farm. She was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church and was attending United In Christ Church with her family. Although she had many health challenges in recent years, she always remained focused on her family, her faith and her friends.
A service to celebrate Sarah’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2019 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Ira Williford and Rev. Barry Williamson officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Interment will be on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Pate Family Cemetery behind the family home.
Sarah is survived by her children, Don Oliver Smith, George Pate Smith and Starr Smith Lupton; grandchildren, Beth Younger (David), John Lewis (Sherry), Lucas Smith (Kellie), Sarah Williford (Robbie), Lisa Anglin (Mike), Brooke Smith (Dave); step granddaughter, April Ingram; great-grandchildren, Jerrica Lewis, Tyler Corser, Cheyanne Lewis, Schylar Lewis, Tristan Lewis, Hayden Enriquez, Maddox Anglin, Ashton Magnus, Austin Williford; step-great-grandson, Tyler Jones; and great-great-grandchildren, Noah Hill and Ella Corser.
The family would like to express special appreciation to Community Home Care and Hospice especially to her caregivers: Carol, Sheree and Ashley.
