David Earl Lewis passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.
David Earl was born in Wayne County on November 14, 1948, to the late David and Hazel Sullivan Lewis. He retired from Law Enforcement having served with the Goldsboro Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and Stantonsburg’s Police Department for over 35 years. David Earl proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and his valor and skill was recognized with numerous decorations, including a Purple Heart.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 9, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at their home. A service to celebrate David Earl’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2019 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral with Chaplain Allen Strickland and Rev. Dennis Pollock officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with military honors by the United States Marine Corps.
David Earl is survived by his wife, Marie W. Lewis; daughter, Lisa Beth Younger (David); son, John S. Lewis (Sherry); step-son, Keith Sullivan (Amanda); step-daughter, Holly S. Martin (Jason); grandchildren, Jerrica Lewis, Cheyanne Lewis, Tyler Corser, Schylar Lewis, Tristan Lewis, Gracie Sullivan, Blake Martin and Cody Martin; and great-grandchildren, Noah Bradley Hill and Ella Grace Corser.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold (Buster) Lewis and sister, Helene Salvato.
