Ernest Alfred Quinn completed his journey home on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 to the welcoming words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
Ernest was born in Wayne County on April 3, 1938 to the late Levi and Florence McLawhorn Quinn. He retired from DuPont in Kinston after over 30 years of service. As a long-time member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, he was instrumental in many of the operations and functions of the church. Ernest served as a church deacon and for many years, he and his wife, Vernell, served as the church secretary and treasurer. Even in his declining health, Ernest continued to exemplify God’s love and a heart for serving others.
A service to celebrate Ernest’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2019 in Woods Grove Church with Pastor Barry Teague and Rev. Charles Spears officiating. The family will greet friends in the hour prior to the service, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., in the church fellowship hall as well as immediately following the service. At other times the family will be at their home. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2019 in Fairview Cemetery, LaGrange, NC.
Ernest is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vernell Smith Quinn; sons, Jeffrey Quinn and wife Kelly and Scott Quinn and wife Donna; daughter, Dana Simonetti and husband Tony; grandchildren, Leah Lovett (Eric), Emilee Pilkington (Thomas), Jordan Quinn, Dylan Quinn, Ethan Quinn and Nick Simonetti; and three great-grandchildren, Hayden Lovett, Quinn Lovett and Eleanor Pilkington. He is also survived by his brother, Douglas Quinn and wife Kay.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Quinn and Garland Quinn; and sisters, Ila Q. Fox and Donna Quinn.
