Hazel Joyce Worrell Smith, 85, passed away Friday, May 10, 2019 at Wayne UNC Healthcare. Born in Wayne County on September 8, 1933 she was the daughter of the late Bruce Worrell, Sr. and Lucettia Overman Worrell. Joyce was a homemaker and a member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
A service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held Monday, May 13, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Teague officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and at other times at the home. Burial will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Joyce is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, Russell “Doc” Smith; daughters, Cindy Darden and husband, Al, Lisa Smith; sons, Russell Keith Smith and wife, Susan, Craig Smith and wife, Doris, and Kelvin Smith and wife, Tonya; sister, Shirley Clark; brothers, Kenneth Worrell and wife, Barbara, Bruce Worrell, Jr. and wife, Ann, Billy Worrell, and John Worrell; eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren (and three on the way); one great-great-grandchild; one step-granddaughter; and two step-great-granddaughters.
