Chris Maxon Lancaster, 75, peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Wayne County on October 3, 1943 he was the son of the late Norman Wesley Lancaster and Patsy Mae Howell Lancaster.

Chris retired from Cherry Hospital as an EMT and later went on to work with Billy Ray Thomas Backhoe Service for several years. He also enjoyed working with Musgrave Auction Company in Goldsboro. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Over the years Chris worked closely with the Wayne County Livestock Development Association where he served as Vice President for several terms. Chris was also instrumental in the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair.

Chris loved the outdoors and had a fond love for animals. Nothing was better than a quiet afternoon of fishing with his daughter, Christy, or one of his granddaughters. He had a way with horses and throughout his life spent countless hours training horses for himself and others. At the end of the day, you could often find Chris sitting near the pond or in some other peaceful surrounding enjoying the sunset. He found comfort in the simple things and often commented on the majestic beauty of God’s creation.

A service to celebrate Chris’ life will be held Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Pastor James Gurkins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home. Interment will be Friday, May 3, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gurley-Lancaster Family Cemetery behind the home.

Chris is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Linda F. Lancaster; daughter, Christy Lancaster Hales and husband, Mike; his three granddaughters who were the apples of his eye, Hannah Evans and husband, Josh, Chrislyn Kirkpatrick, and Weslea Kirkpatrick; sisters, Ann Evans and Priscilla Head; special nieces, Terry Radford and Donna Mozingo; and longtime friend, Don Musgrave.

In addition to his parents, Chris was preceded in death by his brother, N.W. Lancaster; sisters, Marlene Lancaster and Peggy Gurley; and a special nephew whom he considered a son, Johnny Gurley.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Community Home Care and Hospice, along with a special thanks to his hospice nurse, Allison, for the exceptional care provided to Chris in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Alzheimer’s Association Eastern North Carolina Chapter, 5171 Glenwood Ave Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27612.
