Kaneko Emiko Jackson Okamoto

Mrs. Kaneko Emiko Jackson Okamoto, 93, long time Mount Olive resident, died Thursday morning, December 6, 2018 at Genesis Care Center in Mount Olive.

A native of Japan, she married Robert Jackson, a Mount Olive man, and relocated with him to this area. She established herself as a well known and well liked sales clerk having worked in the old Roses Five and Dime, downtown Mount Olive, at Pope’s Variety Store, Super Ten Store, and Dollar Discount store. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Mount Olive. After her husband’s death, she later married Masaru “Mas” Okamoto who also preceded her in death.

Even after she remarried, she was still referred to locally as “Mrs. Jackson” or simply “Emiko”. She is survived by a brother in law, Linwood Jackson of Rose Hill; several nieces including Marsha Becher of Rose Hill. Also she is survived by loved ones in her native Japan.

Graveside services will be Friday, December 7, at 11 a.m. in the old section of Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive. The Rev. Troy Lesher-Thomas will preside. Arrangements by Tyndall Funeral Home.
