Lena Britt Joyner, 78, passed away Sunday, December 2. 2018 at her home surrounded by her family.
Lena was born in Wayne County, NC to the late Moses L. Britt and Alice Holmes Britt. She graduated from Grantham High School and East Carolina University. Lena was a retired teacher from the Wayne County Public School System.
Lena served Jesus Christ through her membership with Selah Christian Church. She was a Life Member of the Grantham Rescue Squad and The North Carolina Association of Rescue & EMS. Lena was a member of the Newton Grove Chapter 257 Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.
Lena is survived by her husband of over 58 years, Gordon A. Joyner; children, Lori J. Marshburn and husband David of Raleigh and Clay A. Joyner and wife Suzette of Four Oaks; grandchildren, Eric Marshburn of Atlanta, GA, Adam Marshburn of Raleigh, NC and Jeremy Marshburn of Raleigh, NC; and sister, Patsy Lange of Saratoga, FL.
Memorials may be made to Selah Christian Church, 1332 Selah Church Road, Four Oaks, NC 27524.
The family would like to give special thanks to CMF and CWF Selah Christian Church, Margaret Cook, Verna Keene, CNA’s Karen Moody, Betty Dove, Tracy Parker, Christy Crawford, Tina Albertson, Zulma Toler, RN Sherry Grady and RN Brenda Coor as well as the staff of 3HC for their loving care over the last several years.
Per Lena’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Her ashes will be spread along Bear Island, a place she and her husband spent many enjoyable hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
