Nancy Faye Paul Hartley, 75, left the cares of this life behind as she entered into Heaven’s gates on Sunday, September 30, 2018. Nancy was born in Pitt County on February 3, 1943 to the late Archie Ray Paul and Hilda Mae Potter Paul. She was the wife of the late Roger Benjamin Hartley, Sr.
Nancy enjoyed a simple life, with family and friends at the forefront of all she did. As a homemaker for many years, she was privileged to have the opportunity to watch her children and grandchildren grow. A collector of many things, perhaps Nancy’s favorite collection was that of her Barbies. With well over 500 dolls, she had each of them proudly displayed and would often gift them with love to granddaughters, nieces, and cousins for their birthdays. Nancy loved a “what not” and was quick to compile a collection when she found something new that she liked. Amongst Nancy’s most prized possessions were the many photographs she took of her family.
A one-of-a-kind lady, Nancy was both strong and gentle. While she faced hard times fiercely, she still carried a sensitive and tender heart. However, with Nancy what came up, came out. She was always one to call it like she saw it, and you always knew where you stood with her. Her love for her family was second only to her love for her Lord. Her kind-heartedness and generous spirit always outweighed life’s circumstances. Nancy’s children and grandchildren always knew that her love for them was unconditional and immeasurable. Nancy will be remembered as a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother. Surely, “her children arise up, and call her blessed.”
A service to remember Nancy’s life and celebrate her home-going will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. from La Grange Church of God, with Rev. Arnold Ball officiating.
Nancy is survived by her children, Roger Benjamin Harley, Jr. and wife, Joan, Richard Edward Hartley, Sr. and wife, Veronica, Debra Lynn Hartley Singer and husband, Ray, and Russell Wayne Hartley and wife, Tammy; twelve grandchildren, Amber, Shane, Amy, Richard, Ali, Sean, Ian, Kyle, Christopher, Zoie, Skyler, and Summer; eleven great-grandchildren; and siblings, Linda Hicks, Amy Thomas, Vivian Leindecker, and Charlie Paul. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Roger; a beloved daughter-in-law, Sue Ellen Hartley; and brother, Dennis Paul.
Family will receive friends Tuesday evening following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to La Grange Church of God, P.O. Box 218, La Grange, NC, where Nancy and Roger were faithful members. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com Arrangements are entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
