Esther Mae Smith Casey, 93, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Wayne UNC Healthcare surrounded by her family.
Esther was born in Wayne County, NC on December 2, 1924 to the late John G. Smith and Nora Gurley Smith. She was married to the late Bennie H. Casey. Esther enjoyed life and spending time with her family and friends. She was a valued employee of Winn Dixie for 30 years. Esther was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be greatly missed.
A service to celebrate Esther’s life will be Sunday, June 17, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Rose officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be Monday, June 18, 2018 at 10:00 AM in Wayne Memorial Park.
Esther is survived by her sons, Ben Casey, Jr. and wife Linda of Goldsboro and Donny Casey and wife, Joanie of Winterville; daughter, Iris Casey Collins and husband Jay of Wake Forest; sister, Vernell Quinn of Goldsboro; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Esther was preceded in death by her sisters, Laulas Newsome, Mabel S. Coker, Sarah Emma Davis, Nora Ann Edmundson and Ava Faircloth; and brothers, Joe William Smith, Robert Smith, John G. Smith, Jr., Rex Smith and James E. “Shine” Smith.
