Reverend Corbett Ray “C.R.” Holder, 86, left this world to be with Jesus Saturday afternoon. C.R. was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend whose love for life and others was apparent to all who met him.
Rev. Holder was born in Robeson County on May 6, 1931 to the late Zebulon Vance Holder and Avis Bass Holder. Along with his late wife of 58 years, Elaine Anderson Holder, they pastored eleven churches beginning their ministry in 1951. They founded Bethel Church in 1968 where he pastored for 50 years. Rev. Holder also founded missionary endeavors worldwide. He trusted God completely and listened daily for God’s instructions. Rev. Holder was selfless, lived to please God and tried to allow God to order his steps. He was a great example of a man that followed God, and there is no doubt his legacy followed him to Heaven.
A service to celebrate Rev. Holder’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Bethel Church in Goldsboro with his son, Rev. Steve Holder and Rev. Mike Manuel officiating. The family will greet friends Tuesday following the service at Bethel Church. Interment will be on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Willie Teachey officiating.
Rev. Holder is survived by his daughter, Chris Holder Daly of Pikeville; sons, Ray Holder of Pikeville and Steve Holder and wife Sharon of Pikeville; sisters, Brenda Royal of Marion, SC; his grandchildren, Rich Holder and wife Lauren, Anthony Holder and wife Heather, Blake Holder and wife Sarah, and Matthew Holder; and three great-grandchildren, Liam Holder, Mia Holder and Hudson Holder.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Keith Daly; sister, Barbara King; and brother, Jimmy Holder.
In lieu of flowers and to honor Rev. Holder, memorials may be given to Bethel Church, 2308 N. William Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530 and they will be directed to the orphanage he founded in Source Matalas, Haiti.
