Frances Jernigan Padrick

Frances Jernigan Padrick, 87, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017. The oldest of four children, Frances was born August 14, 1930 in Lenoir County to the late Claude Richard Jernigan and Ottie Lee Fields Jernigan. Her husband, Elwood Ray Padrick, preceded her in death on January 17, 2016. Frances worked many years with Mutual Savings & Loan which later became First Financial. She began her career as a bank teller and was the La Grange Branch Manager and Vice President of the corporation at the time of her retirement. Following her retirement from banking, Frances assisted her brother for many years at Jernigan Greenhouse.

A lady of strong faith, Frances was an active member of Kinston Church Of Christ, Scientist. A trailblazer, Frances was the first woman elected to the La Grange Town Council. She was a star basketball player at La Grange High School. Her career highlight was scoring thirty two of her team’s thirty three points in a high school game.

Loving, giving and caring by nature, Frances had a heart for others in a time of need. In her spare time, she enjoyed a good game of UNO or rolling pennies. Her family has many fond memories of her delicious chicken salad, spaghetti and lemon pound cake.

A service of remembrance will be held Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 11 a.m. from Rouse Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Frances is survived by her son, Lee Padrick and wife, Shannon; grandchild, Jameson Lee Padrick; three siblings, Claude Richard Jernigan, Jr. and wife, Meta, Faydene J. Boyette, Judy J. Fields and her companion, D.L. White; nephew, Walter R. Boyette; and two nieces, Sharon B. Day and Tracy B. Delgado and husband, Tony. A nephew, Ricky Barwick, also preceded Frances in death. Frances’ family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, Meta Jernigan, Ginger Price and Cheyenne Newborn.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com. Memorials may be made to Kinston Church Of Christ-Scientist, 1701 Windsor Road, Kinston, NC 28504. Arrangements have been entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
