Harry Lee “Sammy” McGuire, 81, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017 at his home in Sanford surrounded by his family.
Sammy was born in Alamance County on March 28, 1936 to the late Christine Whitfield Roton. He was married to the late Betsy McGuire who preceded him in death on July 14, 2017. Sammy had worked as the general manager for Green’s Fuel Company in Sanford for over 30 years.
Sammy was a hard-working man, which was the theme of his life. He was the kind of man who was loyal to his family, who took great pride in caring and providing for them. Sammy also enjoyed sports and for many years he coached the teams that his son played for. He had also served as the Booster Club President for Lee Senior High School for many years.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro followed by a service to celebrate Sammy’s life at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Rose Hicks and Rev. Richard Patterson, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Sammy is survived by his children, Sheila Womble of Sanford, Tammy Patterson and husband Richard Patterson, Jr. of Beaufort, Kim Patterson and husband Joel of Sanford, and Jaymie McGuire and wife Pam of Wilmington; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and mother, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, who raised Sammy, Nettie Whitfield; brother, James McPherson; and sister, June Carol Loftis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of one’s choice.
