Randall Coone passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Woodard’s Care.
Randall was born in Barbourville, Kentucky on July 29, 1936 to the late Eugene Richard Coone and Martha Perry Coone. He was married to the late Lavee Hollowell Coone who preceded him in death on August 17, 2016. Randall proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and retired after 23 years of service. He later went to work with the United States Postal Service where he later retired. Randall was a member of Falling Creek United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Neuse Friends Cemetery on Black Jack Church Road in Goldsboro with Rev. Greg Moser officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
Randall is survived by his daughter, Kathy Broadwell and husband Bart; son, Randy Coone and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Elizabeth Coone, Sally Coone, Gene Coone (Kayla), Amanda White, Will Broadwell, and Katlyn Broadwell; great-grandchildren, Justin Jenkins and Shaun Tutor; brother-in-law, Calvin Perkins and wife Judy; and sisters-in-law, Elaine Callis and Ann Hunt.

Marjorie Rose Powell, 67, of Mt. Olive passed away Friday at her home. She is the daughter of the late Needham J. and Lillie W. Rose, and is the wife of Joseph Powell Sr. Mrs. Marjorie was a nurse for Goldsboro Pediatrics for 40 years. She is also known for her folk art, some of which are at the Arts Council of Wayne County for viewing.
A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home on Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. Committal services will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Powell is survived by a daughter, Ashly Powell of N. Topsail Beach; two sons, Joseph Powell Jr. of Edgefield, SC and Dean Powell of Mt. Olive; a brother, Michael Rose and wife, Donna of Goldsboro; four grandchildren, Jordan Riggs, Chase Cottle, Carly Powell, and Christian Powell; and a great granddaughter, Aubree Riggs.

Willie J Britt, age 93, of Mount Olive, passed away peacefully at Wayne U.N.C. Healthcare on Friday, February 16, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born in Wayne County on February 26, 1924, to the late Charlie Livingston and Lillie Mae Capps Britt.
Visitation is from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. A graveside service to celebrate this honorable and brave man will be held at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev Jim Whitfield officiating, immediately following visitation.
Mr. Britt is survived by his daughter, Sandra Britt Jones of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Britt Jones Byerley, her husband, Quent and their children, Win and Livingston Britt Byerley of Charlotte; Travis Lee Jones and his wife, Allison and their daughter, Lee Harper Jones of Charleston, SC; his daughter in law, Angela Britt and his twin grandsons, James Livingston Britt and John Whitfield Britt; his sisters, Edith Britt Costin; his brother, Cedric Britt and daughter, Robin Britt Caveness and husband, Joseph; Pearl, a long time special friend of the family, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Willie was predeceased by his wife, of 67 years, Sally Cleo Joyner Britt; his son, Jerry Uriah Britt; his sisters, Fannie Britt Jackson and Ruth Britt Daniels; and his brothers, Charlie June Britt, Carroll Britt, Hazel Britt Wiggins, Jim Britt, and Ruffin Britt.
As a young man, Mr. Britt served as a Rifleman in United States Army during WW II and was honorably discharged in 1946 at the conclusion of the war. During his service Willie received multiple honors including the EAME service medal with 2 Bronze stars given for heroic service displayed in a combat zone, a Good Conduct Medal, and a Distinguished Unit Badge. In his 18 month campaign in France and Germany Mr. Britt was part of some of the most infamous battles, including the largest battle of the War, the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Britt did not discuss his service often, but when asked its significance was clear.
Willie J Britt was a loving daddy, uncle, brother, grandaddy, and great granddaddy on the farm.

Sharon Lynn Beasley, 48 year old resident of the Seven Springs area, died Friday night at her home.
A service of remembrance will be Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 3 p.m. at Grant’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Officiating will be Jeff Kearney.
Sharon was the daughter of the late Rommie J. and Geralleen Grady Beasley. She is survived by her daughter, Sara Geralleen Beasley of the home, and her fiancee, Tyler Strickland; two sisters, Cindy B. Maready of Seven Springs, and Rhonda B. McLamb and husband, Clarence, of Woodlawn, Va.; and several nieces and nephews, including the youngest of whom she was very fond, Bryson Hall.

Melba Pate Gurley, 81, completed her journey home on Saturday, February 17, 2018 to the welcoming words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
Melba was born in Wayne County on March 13, 1936 to the late Liston and Norma Pate. She graduated from Pikeville High School in 1954 where she played basketball for many years. Melba had retired from her work with Americal.
Melba was a long-time member of Woods Grove Church and was a dedicated and faithful servant her entire life. She had served in the Sunday school office at the church for over 25 years. Melba had a love for sports and for many years she played softball for the church softball team. She will be remembered as an excellent seamstress and was honored with many 4-H awards for her work. Melba will also be remembered by many for her great cooking and for the many people who sought after her wonderful cakes at family and church gatherings.
Throughout her life, Melba lived her life with resiliency and a love for life. She faced her obstacles with grace and dignity and with an abiding faith in Jesus Christ. Melba could light up a room with her joyous personality and radiant smile. She was an amazing mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren. Anyone who knew her knew she could make friends with anyone and was a kind, and loving person to all she met. Melba was blessed to have so many loyal life-long friends as well as family to share her wonderful memories and experiences with over the years.
A service to celebrate Melba’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Woods Grove Church with her pastor, Rev. Barry Teague officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the church and other times at her home. Interment will be on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.
Melba is survived by her husband of 62 years, Edgar Gurley Jr; son, Chris Gurley and wife Michelle of Goldsboro; daughter, Melanie Bishop of Goldsboro; and the apples of her eyes, her granddaughters, Courtney, Morgan, Caroline, and Madison. Mary Elizabeth Williams Stafford, 80, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.
Mary Elizabeth was born in Wayne County on January 11, 1938 to the late Louis Henry Williams and Elizabeth Taylor Williams. She was married to the late Dewitt Allen Stafford. Mary Elizabeth had worked for many years with Sunburst Foods in Goldsboro. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and granny. Mary Elizabeth will always be loved by her children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate her life at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will be on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Pike Cemetery. The family will also greet friends Tuesday following the service at the funeral home and other times at her home.

Peggy Ann Williams Ellis, 71, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, February 17, 2018 while surrounded by her family.
Peggy was born in Carroll County, Tennessee on November 15, 1946 to the late James Franklin Williams and Alice Imogene Bailey Williams. She was a member of Stevens Chapel Baptist Church. Peggy leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and support for the people she cared about. Her enthusiasm and charm will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A service to celebrate Peggy’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Stevens Chapel Baptist Church, 2850 Stevens Chapel Road, Smithfield with Rev. Vernon Braswell and Rev. Ret. Lt. Col. Nettie Frances Hollis Holmes, USAF, 77, peacefully passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018 surrounded by her family. Born in Martin County on September 19, 1940 she was the daughter of the late Joe Hollis and Velma Holliday Hollis.
Nettie was a graduate of Pikeville High School and went on to further her education at Rex School of Nursing in 1961. Following nursing school she went to work at Duke Hospital and later joined the U.S. Air Force where she retired as a Lt. Col. Pediatric Nurse Practitioner after twenty-two years of service. Following her Air Force career, she later worked and retired from Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A woman of great faith, Nettie was a member and worshipped at Love Memorial Baptist Church. She will be remembered as a great caregiver who enjoyed taking care of others, especially her family.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Love Memorial Baptist Church followed by a service to celebrate Nettie’s life with Rev. Richard Tolar officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Nettie is survived by her husband of 44 years, Kenneth Holmes; children, Mark Holmes (Bonnie), Keith Holmes (Terrie), and Michelle McGarry (Bill); sisters, Dawn Summerlin, Melanie Thompson (Larry), and Sandra Gurley (Roland); five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret Rose Powell Wells was the daughter of the late James Robert and Madge Sutton Powell. She was born May 13, 1940 in Wayne County, NC and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Monday, February 19, 2018 at Wayne UNC Health Care.
Margaret attended the Wayne County Public Schools. She also attended Crumpler Business School and Wayne Community College. Her last employment was with University of Mount Olive, having worked in the Business Office for 29 years. Margaret was a very independent person, who believed in making her own way in life. She worked as an administrative person in the financial and dental field. She worked for Burlington Industries as Administrative Assistant to the General Manager for 19 ½ years and was an avid representative for Avon Sales for 28 years. Margaret finally retired in 2009. She was a dedicated member of New Hope United Methodist Church where she served as vice president of the ladies auxiliary.
Margaret was known for her great cooking having learned the trait from her Mother.
She was stricken with Breast Cancer in 2002 and never waivered the determination to live. She survived major surgeries and supported many women who were diagnosed with cancer.
Margaret is by survived by her daughter, Virginia Jones; her grandson, Cameron R. Jones and wife, Jamie; three sisters, Sallie Hodgin, Sandra Foss and husband, Ronnie and Doris Cherry; three brothers, Joseph Powell, Willie Powell and wife, Carolyn and Dewey Lee Powell and wife, Janet; her sister-in-law, Arlene Powell and a special friend, Bobbie J. Lewis.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Walker Wells; her brothers, James Robert Powell, Allen “A.C.” Powell and his wife, Elizabeth, John Powell and his wife, Margaret Esther; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Powell and a brother in-law, George Hodgin.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 23, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro with burial following at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
She leaves us with a legacy of love, generosity, kind heartiness and a tireless spirit, that is not just thought, but about deeds. May all who loved her, praise GOD for allowing her to have passed our way, for she enriched all of our lives so much. Linda Craig Kannan, 70, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Wayne UNC Healthcare.
Linda was born on May 26, 1947 to Kenneth E. and Eva G. Craig (Gray) in Aberdeen, WA. She graduated from Roseburg Senior High class of 1965, and from Oregon State University where she majored in Accounting. She received her Master in Accounting from UC Irvine. Before moving to Goldsboro, she resided in Irvine, CA where she had her own accounting practice for several years before becoming the CFO for LA Box Co. She is survived by her sister Nancy C. Welch (Michael). She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Thomas S. Kannan, Jr.
She was active in New Neighbors, currently the president of the organization. She was also active in the New Neighbors and Women’s Club book clubs. She attempted to play bridge at the Senior Center, partnering with Dr. Ken Wilkins.
Linda has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Although she had no children of her own, she always had the four legged variety around. She enjoyed answering the question who rescued who. She is with them now.
The family expresses its gratitude to the wonderful staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital. They are a true asset to Wayne County.
At her request, no funeral service will be held, instead, a memorial will be held at Walnut Creek Country Club on Saturday, May 19 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Wayne County Animal Shelter. In memory of Linda please donate blood to the American Red Cross.

Edna Jones Wooten, 85, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Edna was born in Wayne County on May 19, 1932 and was the daughter of the late Floyd and Winnie Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Y. Wooten. Edna retired from Wayne County Public School where she worked in the school cafeteria for many years. She will be remembered by her family as an excellent cook. Edna was a member of Free Chapel P.F.W.B. Church.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Pikeville Cemetery with John Wooten officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.
Edna is survived by her daughter, Donna W. Mooring and husband Gary of Goldsboro and son, Robert F. Wooten of Goldsboro; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Marvin Ray Worley, 69, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018 at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill surrounded by his family.
Marvin was born in Wayne County, NC on March 15, 1948 to the late Marvin Worley and Eva Anderson Worley. He was retired from the State Department of Motor Vehicles Licenses and Theft Division and was a past member of the Goldsboro Rescue Squad. Marvin proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. An avid train enthusiast, he loved traveling to Disney World and taking an underprivileged child and their family. Marvin was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by the governor of North Carolina for his service to our state. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A service to celebrate Marvin’s life will be Friday, February 23, 2018 at 7:00 PM in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Crank and Rev. Mike McAuley. Eva Mae Murchison-Broadie, 77, of 114 Sandy Drive died Tuesday in the Sovah Health Center, Danville, VA.
She was born March 16, 1940 in Wayne County to John E. and Purcell Jones Murchison and is survived by her husband Charles Broadie and six children.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 PM in the James T. Haskins Memorial Chapel of the Haskins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Old Mill Cemetery. Visitation one hour prior to service. The family will assemble at the funeral home in preparation for the funeral service.

Debra Denise Williams, 62, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Miss Williams was born in Louisiana on January 11, 1956 to Alma Folds Williams of Fremont and the late Wallace Williams. She was a member of Mount Nelson Missionary Baptist Church in Eureka and attended Temple Baptist Church in New Bern. Miss Williams was a flight attendant for over 30 years with Piedmont, US Air and American Airlines.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her longtime companion, Gary Johnson of New Bern; two brothers, Wallace Williams Jr. and wife, Wanda of Fremont and James Lee Williams and wife, Tamera of Fremont; two sisters, Susan Janette Gandy and husband, Reverend Steve of Charlotte and Tamra Elizabeth Renfrow and husband, Robbie of Fremont; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and her precious pets, Beaux and Bella.
