William Richard “Bill” Dawson, Jr

William Richard “Bill” Dawson, Jr., age 82, passed away Tuesday morning at his residence. Born in Durham County, he was the son of the late William Richard Dawson, Sr. and Mary Ellen Maples Dawson. A Veteran of the US Army, Bill was a member of the Goldsboro Elks Lodge #139 and Walnut Creek Country Club. Bill was the President of Underwood-Dawson Insurance Agency for many years.

A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held Friday at 11:00 am in the Shumate Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating. Family members will greet friends at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home immediately following the service.

Bill is survived by his wife, Kay B. Dawson; daughters, Lisa Dawson Fulghum, Kelly S. Dawson and Sharon A. Dawson; and one grandson, Charles Dawson Fulghum.

The family requests no flowers be sent and memorial gifts may be directed to Community Home Care and Hospice, 2309 Wayne Memorial Dr.,

Linda Faye Brown, 73, of 305 B. Windsor Creek Pkwy, died Wednesday at her residence.

She was born April 13, 1946 in Wayne County to Elbert and Essie Hall Uzzell. She is survived by her husband Larry Brown and six children.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 12:30 PM in the James T. Haskins Memorial Chapel of Haskins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Eastern Carolina Veterans Cemetery.

Visitation Monday from 2 PM – 6 PM at the funeral home.  At other times the family will receive friends at the residence where they will assemble in preparation for the funeral service.

Arrangements are by Haskins Funeral Home and Cremations, Goldsboro, NC.

William Franklin “Frankie” Hall, Jr., 52, Mount Olive resident, went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, July 13, 2019 following a short fight with cancer.
He passed away peacefully with family by his side.

Frankie was born October 13, 1966. He was preceded in death by his father, William Franklin “Dub” Hall, Sr. and is survived by his mother Elizabeth Barnett Hall. He was deeply devoted to his mother’s care until his passing.

Frankie leaves behind to cherish his memory, his sisters, Virginia Hall Paynter and husband, Donald, of Henderson, and Betty Hall Clarke and husband, Bill, of Micro; step-children, Bradley Taylor (Marisa) and Faith Taylor; nieces, Catherine Shireman (Bobby) and Kelley Deal (Clifton); grandchildren, Thomas, McKenzie and Myles; great niece and nephew, Sarah Catherine and Beckett; and special friend, Myra Johnson.

Frankie worked at Dub’s Bar-B-Que from his teenage years into his adulthood passionately learning the family’s business as he worked alongside his parents. Following the passing of his father, Frankie led the operation of the well-known Mount Olive landmark.

Frankie served his community as an Eagle Scout, and was a dedicated member and past president of Mount Olive Lions Club.

He will be remembered as a loyal friend. Frankie loved nothing more than sharing time with family and friends boating at White Lake, grilling, cooking, and enjoying outdoor activities. One of his favorite pastimes was preparing his special bar-b-que pork and sauce recipes for loved ones to enjoy at pig pickins and family gatherings.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Frankie’s memory to Cures for the Colors, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, NC 27534.

The family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home, Mount Olive on Tuesday, July 16 at 2:00 PM, followed by funeral services at 3:00 PM in the chapel, with burial afterwards in Maplewood Cemetery.

The family requests that attendees dress casually to honor Frankie’s wishes. He specifically asked that no one wear a tie.

Joyce Jones Frederick

Joyce Jones Frederick died peacefully on July 13, 2019, surrounded by her family, after a long illness. She was born January 17, 1934, in Warsaw, N.C. to Louise Bundy Jones and Samuel (“Toby”) Abner Jones.

Joyce graduated from Warsaw High School where she was valedictorian. She attended Meredith College where she was selected Queen of the May Court. She met her husband, John Robert (“Bob”) Frederick while she was at Meredith, and he was a student/football player at Wake Forest College. She was voted Sweetheart of Bob’s Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at Wake, and she went on to become the regional Sigma Phi Epsilon Sweetheart. Joyce and Bob were married for 64 years, and had a wonderful marriage of love, happiness, and support for each other. Joyce substitute taught in her early years and later became the bookkeeper at Frederick’s Music. She was a member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church, where she was involved in her Sunday School class for many years, and she participated in many other church functions. Joyce volunteered regularly for the Salvation Army, an organization dear to her heart.

Joyce’s greatest accomplishment was being an incredible mother to her three sons, John, Ron, and Gary. She enjoyed traveling to see them play sports, and was very involved in their athletic, academic, and career interests. She was a wonderful grandmother to her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, and she just recently had her first great granddaughter, who quickly found a place in her heart. Joyce was always about her family, hosting Christmas at her home for her brother’s and sisters’ families for many years.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Bob; her three sons, John (Cookie), Ron (Prudy), and Gary (fiancé DeAnna Burns); her grandchildren, Betsy Dmochowski (Jake), Emmy Frederick, Audrianna Frederick, Cara Frederick (fiancé, Chris Bloomberg), John Mark Frederick, and Luke Frederick; and great grandchild, Caroline Dmochowski. She is also survived by her sisters, Vicki Cooper (Donald), Bundy Henderson (Winston), and her brother, Steve Jones (Patti), and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Joyce is predeceased by her mother, Louise Bundy Jones, and by her father, Samuel (“Toby”) Abner Jones.

A memorial service for Joyce will be held at Madison Avenue Baptist Church, 300 S. Madison Avenue, Goldsboro, NC on Friday, July 19, at 11:00 AM. The family also will welcome friends for visitation on Thursday evening, July 18, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Seymour Funeral Home at 1300 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Madison Avenue Baptist Church, 300 S. Madison Avenue, Goldsboro, NC 27530.

Douglas R. Price, age 60, died Saturday. Born in Sampson Co., he was the son of the late Edward Carl and Edna Earl Jarman Price.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 4:00 pm at the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Mt. Olive.

The family will visit with family and friends from 3:00-4:00 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Price is survived by his son, Cameron Price of Salemburg, NC; his daughter, Kayla Price of Magnolia; two brothers, Larry Wade Price and Kenneth “Festus” Price; two sisters and brother-in-law, Rita Faye Price and Deborah & Gary Williams; granddaughter, Lindsey Blake; grand dog, “Roscoe Price”.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Jennifer Price and brother, Edward Earl Price.

Christopher was born in Wayne County, NC on April 22, 1966 to Lynda McQueen Carroll and the late Charles Jay Carroll. He was a heavy equipment operator at Busco Beach.

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Christopher’s life at 11:00 a.m.in the chapel. Interment will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.

In addition to his mother, Christopher is survived by his nephews, Kevin Carroll, Jr., Dave Carroll and Kristian Carroll and his great-nephews, Parker Carroll and Elijah Carroll.

Dorothy McCullen Basden, 84, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at her home. By her side holding her hand was her husband of 53 &1/2 years, John Lee Basden. She was born in Mt. Olive, NC to the late Leonard and Daisy Hatch McCullen, and was a member of Park East Church of God.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday at 12:00 noon at Wayne Memorial Park with Pastor Wesley J. Jarmin officiating.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy is survived by her children, Billy Ray Wise Jr. and wife, Dianne of Marion, NC, Theresa Spain and husband, Landon of Fountain, NC, Susan B. Cole and husband, Robert Jr. of Goldsboro, and Sandra Jernigan of Goldsboro; a daughter in law, Janie Wise of Wilmington; 6 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

Dorothy was also preceded in death by a son, Steven Wise.

James Ray Weeks, 76, retired farmer of the Thunder Swamp area, Mount Olive, passed away Wednesday morning, July 17.

He was the son of the late Truman “Toby” and Laura Hunter Weeks, and was also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Truman Weeks and wife, Peggy Price Weeks.

James Ray is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Weeks of Mount Olive; sons, Neil Weeks and wife, Melinda, Mark Smith and wife, Hope, and Scott Smith and wife, Kimberly, all of Mount Olive; the mother of his children, Marilyn U. Weeks of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Toby, Thatcher, Rocket, Austin, Cody, Ailee, Annalee, and Tyler; a brother, William Hunter Weeks and wife, Peggy Taylor Weeks; and a special friend, Sheila Harrell of Mount Olive.

James Ray’s life will be remembered in a graveside service to be held Friday, July 19, at 10 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Donald Graham presiding.

Billy Garris “Bill” Justice, 91, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Countryside Assisted Living. Born in Wayne County on February 24, 1928 he was the son of the late Graham and Naomi Garris Justice.

Bill worked as a news editor for WGBR in Goldsboro for over forty years. He attended St. Paul United Methodist Church during his adult life until his health declined.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 19, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A private graveside service for the family will be held Saturday in the Nahunta Cemetery.

Bill is survived by his brother, Grifton Justice; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Graham Ray Justice and Robert Justice.

Robert Allen “Peter Gun” Lewis, 76, passed away Wednesday July 17, 2019 at Wayne UNC Health Care.

 

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 21, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.  Interment will follow at Jerusalem FWB Church Cemetery in Seven Springs. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 until 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.

 

Mr. Lewis was born in Duplin County on February 17, 1943 to the late James Duncan Lewis and Margaret Elizabeth Smith Everette.

 

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lewis; two sons, Robert Allen Lewis Jr (Pok) of South Carolina and James Andrew Lewis of Virginia; two daughters, Margaret Irene Lewis of Virginia and Winter Roberts (Steve) of New York; one sister, Shirley George of New Jersey and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Everette Lewis
