Christine Davis Whaley, 94, passed away on August 31, 2017 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.
Christine was born in Wayne County on August 16, 1923 to the late Thomas Ernest Davis and Myde Atkinson Davis. She was married to the late Owen Whaley for 64 years. Christine retired from her work with Belk Department Store in Goldsboro with 25 years of service. She was a member of Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary and had served many years as a Sunday school teacher. Christine was a true Christian lady who loved God and lived each day showing those around her what faith in action is all about. She also enjoyed yard work and gardening, as reflected by her beautiful yard.
A service to celebrate Christine’s life will be Friday, September 1, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. John Massengill officiating. The family will greet friends in the hour prior to the service. Interment will be Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Christine is survived by her son, Michael Owen Whaley and wife Dorothy of Rosewood; son-in-law, Glenn Sasser and wife Bettie of Princeton; grandchildren, Timothy Owen Sasser and wife Shari, Kelly Sasser Jones and husband Pete, and Michelle Whaley Jones and husband Don; and her great grandchildren, Melanie Sasser, Timmy Sasser, Michaela Smith, Cody Mitchell, Taylor Jones and Lauren Jones.
In addition to her husband and parents, Christine was preceded in death by her daughter, Maxine Sasser and her brother, Ernest Davis.
