Richard Sebastian Marino, age 65, died Wednesday evening at Rex Hospital. He was born in Saugas, Mass. to the late Sebastian and Mary Marino. A 20-year veteran with the United States Air Force, Richard worked as a Survival Instructor for many years and later as the Club Manager for the NCO Club as well as the Officers Club. During his career with the Air Force, Richard received the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 3 Oak Clusters, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Star, and an Air Force Longevity Award with 3 Oak Clusters. After retirement, Richard continued working as a District Manager with several convenience stores. Upon his second retirement, he became the best Papa in the World. He was a member of The Bridge – Goldsboro campus where he served as an Usher.
Richard was a very giving man and was a contributor to the Wounded Warriors Foundation, the SPCA, St. Jude’s Children Hospital as well as many other organizations.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Wall officiating. Burial with full Military Honors will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends Sunday from 12:00pm – 2:00pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
Mr. Marino is survived by his wife of 44 years, Evelyn Marino; a son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Bridget Marino of Goldsboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Kevin Simmons of Goldsboro; a brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Kathy Marino of Lynn, Mass; ten grandchildren, Anthony Simmons & fiancée, Lindsey Floars, Tyler Wallace, Michael Dougherty & friend, Savannah Pierce, Nicholas Marino, Austin Simmons, Nathan Marino, Hailey Marino, Kenzie Hathway, Ethan Hathway and Bryson Marino (to be born in December); a great-granddaughter, Paisley Simmons. He had five furbaby companions that held a special place in his heart.
