July 3, 93, La Grange

Doris Barwick Barfield, 93, of La Grange, peacefully passed away Monday, July 3, 2017. Doris was born June 2, 1924 in Lenoir County to the late John D. Barwick and Estelle Smith Barwick. Doris was wife to the late William Earl Barfield. Life for Doris revolved around her family and their happiness. She took great pride in being matriarch of her family and nothing was better to her than being a farmer’s wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. A true southern lady, her bright smile and warm hugs endeared her to everyone she came in contact with. Doris enjoyed tending to her yard and garden. Often times, the meals she prepared included the vegetables she had grown and canned. Her family has many fond memories of her cooking and the sweet smells coming from her kitchen. No one made a better pecan pie. In her happiest moments, Doris was surrounded by her loving family. A woman of strong faith, Doris was a longtime member of Wheat Swamp Christian Church. Her faith in Jesus and concern for others was exhibited in all areas of her life. Her life personified Proverbs 31.
