Nora Ann Smith Edmundson, 85, went to be with her Lord on Monday, May 15, 2017 surrounded by her family.
Nora Ann was born in Wayne County on October 16, 1931 to the late John G. Smith and Nora Gurley Smith. Her life was filled humility, kindness and a love for others that she displayed every time she smiled. She dedicated her life to serving her family unselfishly and to serving her Lord. Nora Ann was a member of Woods Grove Church for nearly seven decades where she served in the Ladies Auxiliary, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school for over 40 years. She was always on call to give an encouraging word or helping hand, as she and her husband assisted with the television ministry – Message of New Beginnings. She enjoyed life especially her children, and grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Nora Ann’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in the sanctuary of Wood’s Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Teague officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the church and other times at her home. Interment will be on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.
Nora Ann is survived by her husband of 67 years, Carlton R. Edmundson; son, Dean Edmundson and wife Carolyn; daughter, Jan Butts and husband Tim; grandchildren, Justin Butts and wife Jessica, Brett Butts, Taylor Edmundson; and sisters, Esther Casey and Vernell Quinn.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James E. “Shine” Smith, Joe William Smith, Robert Smith, Rex Smith and John G. Smith, Jr.; and sisters, Laulas Newsome, Sarah Emma Davis, Mabel Coker, and Ava Faircloth.
Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be given in her memory to Woods Grove P.F.W.B. Church, 4009 Central Heights Road, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
