James Evon Hollingsworth, 85, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 9, 2017 while surrounded by his family.
James was born in Sampson County on April 28, 1931 to the late Carmal and Bertha Fann Hollingsworth. He had served as a barber for 28 years with the BX Barber Shop on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
A service to celebrate James’ life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Adamsville Baptist Church, of which he was a member, with Rev. Paul Honeycutt officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
James is survived by his wife, Lalon Barefoot Hollingsworth; children, David Hollingsworth and special friend, Denise of Goldsboro, Carl Hollingsworth and wife Christy of LaGrange, and Donna H. Hawkins of LaGrange; grandchildren, Kyle Hollingsworth, Jarrett Hollingsworth, Lisa Hollingsworth, Crystal Jones, and Christopher Edwards; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Doris Jackson of Salemburg, Judy Jackson of New York, and Glenda Fann of Salemburg; and brother, Dock Hollingsworth of Crossville, TN.
Special thanks to his wonderful neighbors, church friends, and the nurses and doctors who cared for James and his family in so many kind and thoughtful ways through the years and during this time of loss as well as his special friends, Russell Dawley, Ellis McClenney, and Sam Brady.
