A.J. “Jr.” Mitchell, Jr., 71, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.
A.J. was born in Wayne County on May 27, 1945 to the late A.J. Mitchell, Sr. and Minnie Anderson Mitchell. His first and favorite occupation was a farmer and many of his happiest times were spent atop a tractor on the family farm. He was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church. A.J. was a good husband, a great father, and had a generous heart. He provided a wonderful home for his family and gave all he could to his family and strangers alike.
A service to celebrate A.J.’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating. Interment will follow in the Anderson Family Cemetery on Arrington Bridge Road, Dudley.
A.J. is survived by his wife, Martha Cooper Mitchell; daughters, Sheila M. Wilkins and husband Keith of Goldsboro and Jane M. Strickland and husband Danny, Jr. of Dudley; son, Andy Mitchell of Dudley; brothers, Zeb Mitchell and Bruce Mitchell, both of Dudley; sisters, Annette Carter and Lorraine Carter, both of Indian Springs; and sister-in-law, Alice Mitchell of Grantham. He is also survived by a special little girl, Bella Ramirez.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Mitchell; sister, Lib Anderson; and three infant sisters.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at their home.
