Garland Royce Brock, 70, resident of the Summerlin’s Crossroads community near Mount Olive, passed away Sunday morning, February 26, 2017, at his home.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 1, at 2 p.m. from Brock’s Chapel Church, officiated by the Rev. James Earl Herring and the Rev. Dell Murphy, with burial following at the Pate Cemetery. Visitation will be at Brock’s Chapel during the hour before the service, and at other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to VFW Post 9959, c/o Mike Saviak, 866 Kelly Springs Road, Mount Olive NC 28365.
Royce was a member of the 1965 graduating class of Mount Olive High School. He studied auto diesel mechanics in Nashville, Tenn. and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and was recipient of two purple hearts and two bronze stars. He had been a police officer and lastly, was employed at Carolina Turkeys/Butterball. He was a member of VFW Post 9959 in Mount Olive and Brock’s Chapel Church. Royce was an avid reader and writer, was an ardent student of the Bible, and had penned many personal writings. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and doing yard work, was very family oriented, was a sports fan, especially football, loved racing and woodworking.
Son of the late Garland “Dick” and Haddie Holmes Brock, he is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Lynn Zeller Brock; their children, Shawn Spence and wife, Teri, of Roxboro, Jesse Lee Spence of Mount Olive, Ronnie Garland Brock and wife, Kathy, and Randy Douglas Brock, all of Nashville, Tenn., Bobbie Jo Ferrell and husband, Robert, of Seven Springs, Jodie Nicole Brock of Nashville, Tenn., Kady Lynn Brock, and James Richard Brock, both of Mount Olive; 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a brother, Doug Brock and wife, Sandra, of Mount Olive; two sisters, Gail B. Bass and husband, Steve, of Harrisburg, and Susie B. Matthews and husband, Glenn, of Eastover; several nieces and nephews, an aunt, an uncle; and many cousins.
