December 8, 76, Goldsboro

Robert “Bob” Erskine Joyner, 76, passed away early Thursday morning at Genesis in Mount Olive with his wife by his side.

Bob was born in Wayne County on March 4, 1940 to the late Larry and Sudie Grantham Joyner.   He happily grew up on his grandmother’s, Edna Grantham, farm in the Rosewood Community.  Bob lived in the Rosewood Community his entire life and graduated from Rosewood High School. He had retired from General Electric as a gifted mechanic.  Bob shared his gift of repairing things with his friends and strangers alike.  He also enjoyed cooking for his family and sharing his special recipes.  Bob was a member of Westwood United Methodist Church.

A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Hobbs officiating.  The family will greet friends immediately following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.

Bob is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joyce Massengill Joyner; daughters, Marsha Eakes and husband Roger of Rosewood and Wendy Taylor and husband David of Pikeville; son, Michael Joyner and wife Brandy of Saulston; step-children, Jill Gurley and husband Doug of Saulston and Jeff Parnell and wife Debbie of Goldsboro; brother, Charles Stafford and wife Janice of Montana; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family would especially like to thank everyone who has been so kind to Bob during his illness.  The staff at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Genesis, and the many friends and neighbors who took time to help Bob will always be remembered by the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to remember Bob please perform some act of kindness for someone, as Bob tried to do for others so many times.
