Mabel Pennington Sutton

February 4, 96, Mount Olive

Mrs. Mabel Pennington Sutton, long time resident of the Mount Olive area, left this world Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 4, 2020, for her heavenly home and to be with her Lord and Saviour. Death came while she was at home, surrounded by loved ones. She was 96.

Mrs. Sutton, a homemaker and farm wife, was a long time member of Thunder Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was involved in its women’s ministries and in many other facets of church and community worship.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl Sutton; their eldest son, Lindon Ray Sutton, Sr.; her parents, David Junius Pennington and Estella Sutton Pennington; her three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by a loving family to include six children and their spouses, Rethal Carroll and Jeannie Sutton, Judson Earl and Shelia Sutton, Mabel Erlene S. and Robert Brogden, William Brantley “Billy” and Martha Sutton, James Gary and Vickie Sutton, and Janet Kaye S. and David Nickel, all of the Mount Olive/Calypso area; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and was blessed with the knowledge of knowing that two great-great-grandchildren were “on the way.”

Her long and fruitful life will be remembered in a service at 6 p.m. Saturday, February 8, at Tyndall Funeral Home and will be led by the Rev. Jimmy Whitfield, followed by visitation. She will be laid to rest at Wayne Memorial Park following a committal service at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 9. Family and friends are also being received at the Sutton home.
