Roy Vernon Smith, 71, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield.
Roy was born in Johnston County on December 30, 1944 to the late George Henry Smith and Elgie Naomi Radford Smith. He was married to the late Betty Jean West Smith. Roy had retired as a supervisor with Firestone.
Roy was a hard-working man, which was the theme of his life. He was the kind of man who was loyal to his family, who took great pride in caring and providing for them.
A service celebrating Roy’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2016 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Strickland officiating. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son, 101 Glendale Place, Pikeville, NC.
Roy is survived by his daughter, Melissa Jean Smith of Pikeville; son, Roy Smith, Jr. and wife Tracy; grandchildren, Seth Smith, Garett Smith, Jake McDougall, and Jeremy McDougall and wife Kristen; great-granddaughter, Alexis McDougall; sisters, Viola Smith Lucas of Fremont, Juanita Smith of Wilson, and Linda Joyce Smith Vick of Lucama; and brother, Kenneth Edward Smith of Goldsboro. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ronnie and Jackie West, and Connie Talton.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by several sisters and brothers.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Community Home and Hospice Care, 2309 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
