December 7, 74,
Patsy Strickland Winders, 74, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.
Patsy was born in Wayne County on February 17, 1945 to the late Jake and Bettie Stuckey Strickland. She retired from O’Berry Center with over 30 years of service. Patsy also enjoyed her work with the National Guard Ladies Auxiliary. While the soldiers were deployed during Desert Storm, she assisted in making bows for distribution in her community so they would remember all the soldiers as well as her own son who was deployed.
Her warmth, generosity and kind spirit were well known and cherished by those she encountered throughout her life. A long-time member of Nahunta Friends Church, she loved sports and her family. Even in her declining health, she found joy in simple pleasures: visits from family and friends, western movies, a good meal at Ashley’s Diner or a Duke win, or almost equal: a loss by the Carolina Tarheels.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park with Steve Lawrence officiating. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son.
Patsy is survived by her son, Rodney Winders and wife, Tricia of Princeton; grandsons, Seth Winders and Jacob Fletcher; sister, Ann Crawford; brother, Bob Strickland; and several nieces and nephews she loved very much.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Bridgers and brother, J.B. Strickland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Lung Association, 401 Hawthorne Lane, Suite 110 #298, Charlotte, NC 28204 or to Nahunta Friends Church, 2537 Hwy 581 North, Pikeville, NC 27863.
