George Steve Gooding, age 72, died Wednesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Lenoir County, he was the son of the late George Franklin Gooding and Ellen Louise Swain Gooding and husband of the late Maggie Pope Gooding. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ben Gooding and a sister, Hazel Blackwell.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 12 noon in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Pastor Ramon Mizzell officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
George is survived by his sons, Thomas Gooding (Tonia), Ellis Gooding (Jennifer), Jerry Chandler (Lauren, deceased); his daughters, Kathy Goins, Linda Ward Neal (Thomas); his sisters, Christine Grimes, Dalphine Rains, Mamie Gooding, Shirley Gooding and Virginia Gurley; along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
