Carolyn Lancaster Pate, 83, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Rex UNC Health Care in Raleigh.
Carolyn was born in Wayne County on October 20, 1936 to the late Dewey Oscar Lancaster and Elizabeth Gardner Lancaster. For over 37 years, Carolyn delivered newspapers for the Goldsboro News Argus in the Fremont community. After her retirement, she could be found at McDonald’s in the mornings and Bojangles’ in the afternoons, where she enjoyed being a part of many conversations with friends.
A service will be held Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. James Gurkins officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Diane Pate Hinnant of Wendell; Carolyn Nicole Pate of Oklahoma City, Lindsey Diane McClelland and son-in-law David of Jacksonville; brother, Oliver Lancaster of Greenville; sisters, Mary Sasser of Pikeville and Linda Hinkson of Florida; grandchildren, Jason Bryan Hinnant, Alison Hinnant Moody and husband Robert, and Heather Reid; great-grandchildren, Dawson Moody, Macie Moody, Tyson Dickens, R.J. Shoulars, Aiden McClelland, Ava Rose McClelland, Donovan Reid, Cole Reid, Kendrick Grantham, and Noah Grantham; and great-great-granddaughter, Zora Ann Dickens. She is also survived by her best friends, Betty Mae Kearney and Joyce Whisenant. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Marie Ramsey and Gloria Anderson for their love and support.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Elton Daniel “Cracker Jack” Pate; brother, Donnie Lancaster and sisters, Patsy Bass and Rose Webber.
