Elmer Ray Davis, 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his loving family.

Homegoing service will be held Friday, September 27, 2019 at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. The family will receive friends following the service. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton.

Mr. Davis was born in Wayne County on October 20, 1930 to the late Dillard and Sadie Ferrell Davis. He was a member of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church where he helped build the new sanctuary. Mr. Davis was also a lifetime member of the Goldsboro Rescue Squad, which was his passion. Prior to retirement, he worked with Paul Herring Construction Company, Leslie E. Davis General Contractor and Bridgers Construction Company.

He is survived by his two daughters, Rae Ann Gillespie and husband, Michael of Goldsboro and Susie Teachey and husband, Jim of Pikeville; three brothers, Royce Davis and wife, Evangeline of Goldsboro, Connie Davis and wife, Helene of Elm City and Dearl Davis and wife, Glenda of Goldsboro; one sister, Linda Smith of Goldsboro; four grandchildren, Hillary Davis, Mark Wilson, Matthew Teachey and Phillip Teachey and three great-grandchildren, Hayden Davis, Avery Wilson and Cooper Wilson.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Rowe Edwards Davis; one daughter, Cathy Darlene Davis; his sister, Velda Anderson and brothers, Leslie Davis, Kenneth Davis and Rudolph Davis.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.

The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
