Sherby Tucker Hines

Sherby Tucker Hines, 73, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

Sherby was born in Wayne County on May 15, 1946 to the late Joe Jesse Tucker and Addie Mae Gooding Tucker. For 25 years, Sherby worked with Gambella Industries in Fremont and later retired from Wayne County Public Schools. She attended St. John Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro and Island Christian Fellowship in Hertford. Sherby enjoyed sewing and looking for a good find at a yard sale. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her precious grandchildren. She will be missed.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Sherby’s life at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will be in Pikeville Cemetery.

Sherby is survived by her husband of 38 years, Linwood E. Hines; son, Wayne S. Benton and wife Cyndy of Snow Hill; daughter, Vicky Benton Lancaster and husband Eric of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Ali Lancaster Legg and husband Jordan, Morgan Lancaster and wife Macy, Kristen Hines, McKayla Benton, Dylan Benton and Starr Benton; and great-grandchildren, Caiden Waddell and Tucker Lancaster. She is also survived by her sisters, Eloise Tucker of Pikeville, Judy Harper of Mount Olive and Jenny Pope of Tennessee; and brother, Joe Jesse Tucker Jr. of Goldsboro.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David Hines; two sisters and two brothers.
