Joseph Eugene Austin, Jr., 53, passed away suddenly on Monday at his home.
Joe was born in Minot, North Dakota and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and retired after 21 years of service as an air traffic controller. He was currently working with Wayne UNC Healthcare in Goldsboro.
Joe was a man of many talents from being brilliant with electronics and who could fix almost anything, to being passionate about cooking for everyone or anybody. He also enjoyed grilling out, traveling, and riding his bicycle with the Seyboro Cyclist Group. Joe was gregarious, larger than life and every life he touched he changed. Most importantly to Joe was his family. Joe worked so hard to make sure his wife and children were well taken care of. Joe was the best husband and daddy who will be truly missed.
A service to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Harry officiating. The family will greet friends Wednesday immediately following the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery at a later date with full military honors.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Pat Austin and daughters, Katie Watkins and husband Erik of Sylva and Emily Austin and husband Chris Clavet of Fletcher; mother, Darlene Austin; father, Joe Austin, Sr. and wife Willa; sisters, Kim Davis and Maria Price; brother, James Austin and wife Mi; father and mother-in-law, Jack and Susie Prentice and brother-in-law, Charlie Prentice and wife Molly.
