William Perry Crawford

William Perry Crawford, 91, went to his heavenly home in the early morning of Monday, April 8, 2019 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Bill was born in Wayne County on August 7, 1927 to the late Nathan Perry and Rosa Deans Crawford. He was a graduate of Nahunta School in 1944 and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy during WWII.

Bill was a farmer, and did a number of other occupations, most notably he retired from the US Post Office in 1990. His heart’s desire as a young boy was to be a mail carrier and he fulfilled his dream. After retirement from the Post Office he filled his time working for the Nahunta Pork Center as long as his health would allow.

Bill was a faithful servant to his community, he was an original member of both Nahunta and Little River Volunteer Fire Departments; a 50 plus year, seventh degree member of Nahunta Grange; an honorary member of an antique tractor club; a member of the Nahunta Community Fellowship where he served as treasurer; and a member of the Pinkney-Junior Order. He was a member of Nahunta Friends Church where he severed on various committees.

Bill married Evelyn Proctor on December 22, 1951, and they were blessed with two daughters, the late Susan Crawford Caughron and Bonne Crawford Capps.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Bill’s life in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Eric Woods officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn of 67 years; daughter, Bonnie Capps and husband Thomas Capps of Rougemont, granddaughter, Trina Capps, grandson, Anthony Capps and wife, Brianne Capps: son-in-law, Joe Caughron of Goldsoboro, NC; granddaughter, Robyne Caughron Herring husband, Josh Herring of Calypso; grandson, Will Caughron; great-granddaughters Raegan Herring, Cali Capps; and great-grandson Cannon Herring.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Caughron; sister, Jean Sasser Edgerton; and brothers, Thurman Crawford and Floyd Lee Crawford.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given to Nahunta Friends Church, 2537 Hwy. 581 North, Pikeville, NC 27863.
