Robert Lathan Spann, 78, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 28, 2019. Lathan was born October 12, 1940 in Trenton to the late Robert Spann and Nancy Bachelor Spann. His wife, Brenda Hunter Spann, preceded him in death.

Lathan worked with Dainty Maid Bakery from 1961-1998 and then worked with Franklin Bakery from 1998-2009. When at home, Lathan found great pleasure in tending to his garden.

A graveside service to celebrate Lathan’s life will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Lathan is survived by his son, Jeff Spann and wife, Georganna; granddaughter, Allison Spann; two sisters, Melva Gooding and Alma Sue Smith; special friend, Dawn Best; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Lathan was preceded in death by three brothers, Jimmy Spann, A.V. Spann and Marion Spann; and a sister, Erma Silance.

Family and friends will be received Saturday from 12:30 -1:30 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Lanie’s Chapel Christian Church, 5333 NC Highway 58 North, Kinston, NC 28501.
