Clint Russell Newcomb

Clint Russell Newcomb, 40, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2019 at Wayne UNC Healthcare surrounded by his loving family after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Clint was born in Wilson County on May 5, 1978 to Danny and Pam Joyner Newcomb of Pikeville. He attended Lenoir Community College where he played baseball before completing his Associates Degree in Turf Grass at Wayne Community College. Clint worked at Lane Tree Golf Club for 21 years where he enjoyed the friendship and comradery of Chad Matthews. He was a member of Bethel Church. Clint will be remembered as an avid UNC Tarheel Fan, his athleticism and his love for all sports. Above all he was deeply devoted to his family and enjoyed competing with his son, Cam, in Fantasy Football.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 8, 2019 from 5:00 – 6:45 p.m. at Bethel Church followed by a service celebrating Clint’s life at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Pastor Steve Holder officiating. The family requests that those attending the service wear UNC apparel.

In addition to his parents, Clint is survived by his wife, high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Amanda Williams Newcomb; son, Cam Newcomb; sister, Paige Newcomb; and a niece that he loved as a daughter, Makayla Williams. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Judy Williams; sister-in-law, Rachelle Williams; his very best friends, Shane and Alison Gipson; and several special nephews, cousins and friends whom he loved very much.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Russell and Hope Ginn Newcomb; maternal grandparents, Wilson and Aleeda Daw Joyner; father-in-law, James A. Williams; brother-in-law, Randy Williams, whom he considered a brother.

The Newcomb Family would like to thank the staff at SMOC and the 4th floor staff at Wayne UNC Healthcare for the outpouring of love shown to Clint during his illness. May God bless each of you in a very special way.

An educational scholarship to benefit his son, Cam, will be established in the days ahead and additional information will be available at a later date.
