December 20, 68,
Samuel Lawrence Lane, 68, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Wayne UNC Healthcare surrounded by his family.
Sam was born in Wayne County on March 24, 1950 to the late Carl Lassiter Lane and Ida Boswell Lane of the Nahunta Community. For many years, Sam worked as a soil technician with Best Sand and Gravel. Sam proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was always the happiest when he was riding his motorcycle or jeep. Sam also enjoyed making barn quilts with his wife at their home.
Sam’s faith in God was recognized by his family when he would attend Yelverton United Methodist Church in Faro. The family thought that the only reason he would go to church was so he could eat Sunday lunch with his family after the service but after some time he developed a great love for God and his messenger, Greg Moser.
A service celebrating Sam’s life will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Moser and Rev. Mary Kay Best officiating. The family will greet friends Saturday immediately following the service and other times at the home of his sister, Melody Thomas.
Sam is survived by his wife of 32 years, Judy Watkins Lane; his daughter, Samantha Jones and husband Al; sisters, Melody Thomas and Lisa Teachey; and several nieces and nephews he loved very much. He is also survived by his best friend and buddy, Ben Claiborne.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Chris Lane, Craig Lane and Jerry Lane; and sister, Carla Sauls. It is a known fact to the family here that when his brothers and sister saw Sam coming home to heaven they knew mama would be happiest that her favorite boy has come home.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made Relay for Life of Wayne County, Survivor Sam Team, 8300 Health Park, Ste 10, Raleigh, NC 27615.
