Mattie Lee Smith Ham, 95, quietly and peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. The third of five children, Mattie was born September 9, 1923 in Wayne County to the late Vann Smith and Daisy Wells Smith. She was wife to the late James Burton “J.B.” Ham.
Mattie retired from Kinston Shirt Factory and was a longtime member of Tanglewood Church. She made many great, lasting friendships in her Sunday School Class and truly enjoyed the fellowship and bond they shared.
In earlier years, Mattie loved trips to Nashville and Senior Dances at the Galaxy.
A service to celebrate and honor Mattie’s life will be held Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 2 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Mattie is survived by her daughter, Sharon Moody and husband, Bruce; three grandchildren, Tonya Holland and fiancee, Michael Spencer, Tammy Holloman and husband, Stacy, and Al Moody; four great-grandchildren, Garrett Holland, Kolby Holland, Ashlynn Holloman and Abby Grace Holloman. In addition to her parents and husband, Mattie was preceded in death by four siblings, Horace Smith, Lucille Ivey, David Van Smith and Chester Smith; and two very special friends, Josephine Lucas and Mildred Lane.
